Watched a interesting train movie last night.

I watched an interesting train movie last night. It was called “Snowpiercer” I had never heard of it but recognised several actors in it. The premise was the future world in an attempt to reverse global warming “seeds” the upper atmoshpere with a chemical and it works too well turning the world into a frozen snowball. The only survivors of this deep freeze live on a enormous train that can never stop. The unlucky third class passengers at the back of the train revolt and battle their way to the front of the train.
It is a far fetched sci fi flic but it has some neat scenes like when the train is on a helix and the good and bad guys are exchanging shots at each other across the way. The “school” car for the priveleged kids is hoot. Another flashback scene has the builder and owner of the RR as a kid sitting on the floor of his living room playing trains. We have all been there. LOL

I won’t give anymore away but it was a much better movie than I expected it to be. check it out streaming on NetFlix.

I almost rented this the other day, but I still hadn’t seen “The Day of the Doctor” yet, so next time after I return the Doctor.

I bought a DVD of “A Ticket to Tomahawk”. It wasn’t quite what I remembered from my kidhood, but its a good movie. And I just picked up the DVD of “Unstoppable”. The bonus footage where they show how they filmed some scenes is really cool.

Thanks for the tips I wil lhave to check out some of them.

Since I just signed up for Amazon Prime because of shipping, I searched for some of these titles to see if I could stream them free. I think the only one available free was “Breakheart Pass”.

However, I did find a bunch of Pentrex movies on the prototype railroads and added them to my watch list. If you have prime, they are all free to stream. Check them out.

Amazon Pentrex movies

Mike,

Thanks for reminding me about Amazon Prime movies.

I added some from the link you posted.

I also searched for “narrow gauge”

Amazon Prime Narrow Gauge

CAUTION: some of those require payment, instead of being free

We watched “Thi Property is Condemned” the other night and it was good. We just got done watching “Breakheart Pass” and that one is really exciting. My wife even thought it was good but then I found out that she always liked the look of Charles Bronson and here I thought she liked the train action.
I wonder if they really wrecked the caboose and 2 cars when they went off the trestle? The RR they used for the movie is really neat with tons of trestles.

I saw “Atlas Shrugged” a few years back and thought it was terrible like a really bad made for TV movie.

Dear All,

Last night on “THIS” (local broadcast) I saw the movie “Eye of the Needle”, a WWII spy thriller.

(Donald Sutherland, Kate Nelligan, 1981)

There were some train scenes early in the movie, but they weren’t central to the movie as a whole.

It features Patton’s plywood invasion force, which was located not too terribly far from where TAC’s home is now.

Sutherland was chilling as the bad guy “Faber”. Quite the actor.

Recommended.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Edit: Modify line spacing, grammar

Isn’t it always the same story, the privileged are in the best cabins and the rest of us are on top of the boiler room.

“Snowpiercer”

I just finished, really weird (and I love to read dystopian fiction) this film was not for me…I’ll take the Titfield Thunderbolt any day!

FYI The “Emma Sweeny” engine from "A Ticket to Tomahawk, Is the Studio Prop that we (DRHS) are restoring, back to the original condition as used in the movie. It was Shot in and around Silverton. The big trestle scene was shot on the remnants of the RGS.

A scan from a studio Still 8x10. That engine is a fake, made from wood and cardboard.

The Blond show girl is Marilyn Monroe, Uncredited.
