Warren's Box Car Build Log

I thought I would start a build log for my box car project. Although it will be about 3 weeks before I actually get started, I would share what my plans are and some other tid bits I’ve come across. I’ll actually be building 6 box cars all in 1:20.3. These will be pulled behind my Connie and hopefully I’ll also build a box cab similar to Bruces. I’ve already got 2 of the Bachmann 45 tonners just for that purpose. Back to the box cars…I am planning on building 2 all steel EBT outside braced boxes, 2 composite (steel frame, door and ends…with wood sides) box cars similar to the Lehigh Valley car. These will be a variation between the LV version and a DLW version that I have pictures of. Since these cars are actually standard guage, and I’m building in narrow guage I’m at liberty to make modifications (an excuse to hide my mistakes…:D). The last 2 cars will actually be reefers, but based on the LV car. Bob and Bruce have posted pictures of these cars, but I thought I would also post a picture here with my build log so everyone knows what I’m suppose to be doing. This is the LV composite box car.

And the EBT steel outside braced box car.

While rummaging through zillions upon zillions of pictures of box cars, I came upon these. They are of a DLW (Lakawana) box car very similar to the above LV car. The major differences are the doors on the LV car are Superior steel doors rather than a wood door, and the DLW car doors open to the right as do most cars. For some reason  every time I look at the LV car I think of Bachmann… Any ways, I thought I would share these pictures with you because it shows in excellent detail all the end brake detail and other detail of the car. I’m posting here some smaller pictures, but if you are interested in Hi Res pictures, click the links below each pic for a LARGE view. The DLW car, side view.
