Warm white 3mm LEDs

I just bought a set of 100 LED warm white Christmas lights from Sam’s Club for $12.99. These are 3mm-2v LEDs. The color when taken out of the diffuser is about the same as incandescent bulbs. The diffusers might be used in the ceilings of passenger cars to distribute the light more evenly. I plan on using these with a resistor to make mars lights.

Good idea Jim, I’ll keep an eye out for sets like that at Walmart. No Sam’s around here! LED’s at Radio Shack are like $5 each.

Good find!

Neat! I’ll have to look around for those here. Beats buying LEDs individually.

Rated at 2v, I assume they would work with one 1.5v alcaline, or two 1.2v rechargables. I plan on putting a 1000olm resister in series with them [in trains] and run at track or RC battery voltage. I might set up several in series and run them off a six volt battery for a structure.

those are great lights bought up a few sets on the 26th a few years ago! 1/2 price…may not make the trip this year though, Bmann says no train sets (of course I skipped that horror of a screwball loco last year too!)

thanks for the reminder Jim!

I found a nearly identical set at the Christmas Tree Shop which is a local job-lot discounter. Picked one up for $6.99 with 25 + 2 spares. The LED’s in this set are pretty much the standard bluish-white LED. Interesting diffuser built into the end of the LED. They don’t produce a beam like most LEDs. Probably not a good choice for headlights, but would make great interior lights for coaches or buildings.
