Always one for the oddball rolling stock, I’m particularly intrigued by the War Emergency cars that most RRs built during WWII. The wood and steel gondolas have always been on my ‘to-do-in-NG’ pile. Today I found a W-E caboose that the NYC built from an old steel boxcar. I think I need to build one of these with my cast ends. I particularly like the model version, that has a welded panel over the door hole.
Another W-E caboose. This one is neat because of its asymmetry end-to-end.

Being a Drovers Fan, I DIG!
nice Cabeese Bob. When will it be begun ?
I like the converted box car. Could have an after the war life as a snack bar car like on the C & T.

That caboose made from a steel boxcar is really cool!

Bob, do you have a picture of one of these? This sounds suspiciously like the ex-US Military gondola that the Arcade & Attica uses for its passenger excursions… well, before the insurance company made them put a roof on it!

Arcade & Attica No. 18 Returns to Arcade by JamesTrains, on Flickr This is the gondola as it is being pulled backwards into the station at the very end of the excursion run. Unlike many excursions, the A&A is forced to run around the train instead of turning the train and/or engine at each end of its run.
Here’s the ones I’m thinking about. Metal shapes for the framing and wood everywhere else
