Wanted - Larger cylinders for Accucraft Ruby

Try calling Accucraft and see if they have any. I got a set about a year ago.
Question
Why would you want larger cylinders? The Rubies I’ve seen run to fast as it is. Wouldn’t larger cylinders use your steam faster?
Ric when the Ruby first came out it had smaller cylinders that caused it to run too fast. The cylinders were made larger (Inside). The larger cylinders on a steam train will slow it down. The new cylinders are 1/2 inch vs the older I believe was 3/8
just take the cylinders apart and size the steam admission ports the same (.075}some off the admission ports were drilled with different drills

Not unless you made the intake and exhaust bigger. Yes for the thelogians we are talking the cylinders but they still have intake and exhaust in the steam chest. Bigger displacement doesn’t always mean faster. It’s only as good as it can breath and poop. Lots of old guys have big cylinders but does that make them faster? They can intake a lot but cannot exhaust it fast enough.
Make sense?
Hey Rooster you are right,… but in the case of how the bigger cylinders help the Ruby, it’s because the lager cylinders slow them down for the very reason you state. They now have lager cylinders which have to fill up with more steam per stroke, but still have the original small intake and exhaust to do it through. The bigger cylinders may give a bit more torque given the lager surface area the steam acts on but their main purpose is to slow the critter from warp 10 to about warp 3.
Love my large cylinder Ruby, and I really need to finish up that bash, I’m so close. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)
Hook up Dave then !
No need to explain it to me… I don’t roll that way bro.
Edit: cause I can and still play’s with track powered boxcars
I will try calling Accucraft tomorrow, I didn’t see them on their website and could not find any for sale doing a google search at any other train dealers ;- ( . from what I have read the larger cylinders make the Ruby run much better, better slow performance and better pulling power, im interested in the slow performance.
Thanks

Well, the cylinders and chassis are the only part of the Ruby that I am reusing on my bash. I was going to take rosters advise and post the link to the cylinder add in the E-store, but it seems to be gone. Sure hope for your sake Dave, they might have a set when you call.
Are you sure bout those electrified box cars Rooster? There’s always plenty of room for burnt fingers at the ER. Of course you might run it to Shawn there. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Randy, some folks just like them powered boxcars.
Randy, I have 2 pair of ruby upgrade cylinders, 9/16. Out of business now they were sold by Mintons UK. Would they work?
Chris
Accucraft has been soldout for some time. Went for about 160. Word is they are making them again, future sometime but they will be much more expensive given the number of years since thjey last offered them.
Chris
Late to the party, never mind.
