Wanted-Hobart Estate Caboose Drawings

On December 3rd I purchased a “NEW” Hartford Hobart Estate caboose kit from

Stan Ames that was missing half the drawings. He has not provided any.

Has anyone scanned them or is willing to part with them?

Ron,

please contact Bob Hartford. I think he will be more than happy to get you what you need.

I am surprised. I contacted Bob Hartford back in December about the missing drawings and he said he would get the drawing you needed right out to you. Have you talked to Bob about not getting them?

Bob has not sold the complete kit with wood for years but he said he still had the drawings you needed.

Bob is an excellent manufacturer and provides great service to his customers.

Be happy to take the kit back should you have problems getting the drawings.

Stan

Stan
The last information I got from you was over 5 weeks ago. I have called Bob numerous times and e-mailed with no response. That is why I am asking if anyone would share scans etc.

Ron Knepp

Ron,

Talked to Bob yesterday and put a bug in his ear. he said he has been very busy with orders recently but has not forgot you.

Thanks for the effort Al. I have been trying to return the kit to Stan Ames but to date it has been too expensive and complicated… I paid $18.00 shipping for what would fit in a USPS box that costs $12.35. He will only pay $3.oo for return shipping…

I thought that I would bring this back to the top as I have received no help from

Stan Ames and nothing from Hartford. How could you expect a “NEW” kit to be complete…

Hi Ron,

If you purchased an As New kit it should have been complete. Seems to me the seller misrepresinted the kit when he put it up for sale. It should be HIS responsability to provide the missing items not yours.

I recently bought a Hartford Waycar kit it was stated that it was new and complete, when I received it it looked like the box was never opened, everything was there.

Guess it all depends on who your dealing with, he should get you what you need or take it back and give you a full refund

Chuck

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for the interest. Quick review. Purchased “NEW” kit early December.

Paid $18.00 shipping for what would fit in USPS box for $12.35. Received used kit with 2 of prints missing and the other 2 dirty, wrinkled, and oily. I was told I should look for prints. I was told if I wanted to return kit he would contribute $3.00 for return shipping and I would need to wait for my check until he reviewed kit. He really should be banned from selling on the site…

Ron Knepp

Sorry for the rank.

Ron,

Is this a “short kit” or a complete kit?

In other words, is everything there, wood, castings, wheels, trucks etc.

Hi John,

Thanks for the response. This is the complete kit. I did not do a

inventory because of the missing drawing problems. That is a nice

caboose in the photo.

Ron Knepp

Hi Ron,

Just checking to see if you ever received the missing plans for your kit? Did you receive anything from Hartford?

My buddy checked but must have gotten rid of the set he had.

Chuck

Hi Chuck - No plans yet. I received a phone call from Bob Hartford about 2 weeks

ago and he said that he would send me a set.

The latest plan from Stan Ames is that I take the kit to York Pa. the ECLSTS show and

find Bob Mc Cowen, this site owner, and give him the kit. When Bob meets Stan he will give

the kit to Stan. After Stan reviews the kit and is satisfied he then sends me a refund check.

All this because I paid full asking price and inflated shipping with a good check. What more

could you expect.

Ron

I am a little surprised by your posts. I have been away for some time and will be traveling again soon so am only around for a short time. Lets try to resolve this. Its a little strange to do this on the forum but such is life.

I am sorry you have not received the plans from Bob Hartford yet and if you are unhappy with what you received please send it back. I will pay the on-line USPS parcel post shipping costs and will send you a refund once I get the kit back. If you desire to continue to wait for a replacement set of drawings from Bob you can wait till the ECLSTS show and return it then if you have not received the drawings. Not sure what else I can do.

Perception is such a wonderful thing and clearly my perception is vastly different then yours.

Your posts seem to omit a great deal of information and leave a lot of impressions that simply are not accurate.

I must admit after a lot of transactions over the years this is the first time I have had a problem as either a buyer or seller. I had thought we came to an agreement in January that you were pleased with but clearly that is not the case.

In December at your request, I contacted Bob Hartford and he said he had the missing diagrams and he would send them to you. I gave you a choice to send back the kit or keep the kit and I would ask Bob to sent you a new set of diagrams. You opted to keep the kit and wait for the drawings from Bob. I am sorry it has taken Bob so long to get the diagrams to you but I am most confident you will get them.

If you wish you can keep the kit till the York show in the event you get the diagrams you desire between now and then, or you send it back now for a full refund either way is fine by me.

But lets clear up a few misconceptions.

  1. I did not overcharge you for shipping. In fact you paid the actual shipping cost. The package to you included the kit along with 30 Gary Raymond wheel sets and we chose UPS to send the package. Check the weight, insurance and destinations on line and you will see that what I say is true.
We could have perhaps used a large flat rate USPS box instead but neither of us suggested we use that option before the package was shipped and I am not confident the items would have fit if you include the packing material to ensure you received everything quickly and safely. Please note that the wheel sets are the dominant part of the shipment and that you paid nothing additional for the Hobart kit to be shipped to you.

  2. The kit shipped was new and in its original box but as noted I got it long ago it sat around for 15 years which is why I offered it on this list for 30-40% off the going price for a complete kit with all the wood and castings. I got the kit as a gift and opened it up to look at it before putting it away. I decided to sell it as it does not fit into our layout concept and I would likely never have assembled it. I checked the kit before shipping it to you but did not notice the missing diagrams amongst all the drawings and instructions included in the kit.

  3. I shipped you the kit before I had received the check in payment. I tend to trust model railroaders. Not sure why you desire I send you a refund check before I get the kit back.

  4. Bob is very prompt and can quickly email the files but alas the diagrams you desire are in a format that neither of us has so Bob will need to print them and send them to you vial US mail. I am sure he will get around to it. I have no idea why you have had such problems communicating with Bob as he normally answers in one or two tries. Early afternoon seems to work well.

Again I am sorry you are not 100% satisfied please return the kit for a full refund.

Stan

Stan - You may not be happy with the direction this wanted ad has taken but every word written can be backed up by your e-mails. It was your idea that for me to look for someone that has the missing drawings, that is why the ad was posted here and at other sites.

The inflated $18.00 shipping would not have surfaced until you stated numerous times you would only pay $3.00 for the return pastage of the defective “NEW” kit. The wheesets and the kit would have easily fit into a USPS medium box for $12.35. I never chose the shipping

method. I paid what was requested.

There was another new kit sold on this site for $90.00 about the same time so your inflated price of $150.00 just isn’t correct.

I am an old geezer but I have never been screwed over by any seller before to this degree. And why you would not have trusted me just a little and returned the money by Paypal as I

suggested,I have no idea. It appears that you do not even trust your friends that I am to give the kit to at York enough to give me a check.

Sorry for the rant. “WOW”

Ron Knepp

Lets take this to email, folks.
