Wanted Bachmann 2-8-0 Frame and wheel set

I am looking to purchase a used Bachmann 2-8-0 frame and wheel set to use as a starting point to scratch build a locomotive for a contest. It can be either and Inside frame or Outside frame version. It is is an outside frame version I would like it to have the siderods and counterweights. If it is the insideframe version , I would like it to include the side rods as well.

Any Help would be appericated.

Dan, I have the whole thing with tender. BBT Chassis and all.

Dan,

I made a brass frame and added ten-wheeler wheels. It wasn’t hard to do - but you need more than one 4-6-0 !

Pete: I have several 4-6-0’s that I bought for just that purpose and have been working on a cad drawing from origianl Baldwin 2-8-0 blueprints of the frame to have on lazer cut from ABS plastic. How did you make your frame out of brass, did you have it machined , or did you solder it up piece by piece? I have a resistance soldering rig I could use to solder up a frame, if I could find the right size brass material.

You could check with Barry of BBT and see if he has any.

I had thought about that, but when I went to his website, all it had on it was Links to other websites. I think he has stopped doing them.

You have to call him directly. Last I knew he had a few on hand.

Poctures as requested.

Dan,

I was interested in making a frame the way they do in the smaller scales - two flat pieces of brass soldered together and then drilled, cut, etc. I think it is 1/16th x 1" strip. The target loco was a Baldwin 2-8-0 used by the D&RG and the EBT around 1890.

This actually ran, with the crude rods, but I now have some s/s rod ends that can be bolted together to make jointed rods.

The front axle is pivoted so the whole thing is equalised. The two center axles can move upwards if necessary so the flanged wheels stay on the track.

Pete: Looks good, I see you used two set of side rods to make a set for a 2-8-0. I like that is is simple to make, The one I am working on would be more like the original with all of the cut outs and made from 1/8" ABS as the wheels I using have a brass bearing that is 1/8" wide. This might be an easier way to go and give me an excuse to break out the old resistance soldering rig.
