WANTED Accucraft Live Steam Climax

WANTED
Accucraft Live Steam Climax

Mike not sure how much you are looking to spend but a new one can be found here. A little over priced though http://www.ebay.com/itm/ACCUCRAFT-AC77-631-CLIMAX-TWO-TRUCK-LIVE-STEAM-ENGINE-/271986240087?hash=item3f53a4aa57:g:NWwAAOSwQPlV9wTE

What about a Catatonk. These were built very well and are hard to find. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CATATONK-18-TON-CLIMAX-LIVE-STEAM-LOCOMOTIVE-BUILT-BY-MIKE-CHANEY-/321954828445?hash=item4af600d09d:g:BGwAAOSwEgVWTrE4

Also try contacting Jay from the Train Department he might be able to find one for you.

Hi Shawn

Yeah I have seen that one on ebay and it is over priced as you say, (I missed a new one over here for £1895…dabnabbit!).

The Catatonk looks really interesting. I wonder what the gearing is like?

I have gone for LS Shays due to my max 1:10 gradient and how well they behave especially going down.

I know that the Accucraft Climax is not so well geared as the shays but …the Catatonk…?

I will try Jay…

Regards

Shipping live steamers over from the US (or anywhere), especially used, is a big risk Mike. Seen one or two that got loose from their moorings at one of Accucraft’s UK service agents. All I could suggest is keep close tabs on all the usual suspects for 2nd hand live steam in the UK. You might want to tell them you are on the look out for one but agree a price point first.

The Climax is a much faster runner than the Shay, and quite a good puller. My favourite loco in the 18 months I’ve had it. Don’t know how well it sold 1st time but might there be a chance of a 2nd run ? Ask Cliff at Accucraft. Max.

Mike I have seen the Catatonks run and they are great runners. Not sure what the gearing is but its better then the Accucraft. Mike Chaney made them and I believe hes from the UK and still around. Try mylargescale Im sure someone can tell you the gearing. The Catatonks dont come up often. He made a Shay, Climax and Heisler. The Heisler is one Im waiting for.

Mike Chaney may well still be around, in fact, he lives about half an hour south of me. However, and this is a BIG however, he does NOT deal with anybody in the UK, as I found out to my cost when looking to buy one of his models a few years ago. ALL his production models are made explicitly for export. His ‘train set’, I guess, but that’s the way it is.

PS @Mike Gilchrist - with members here in Australia/New Zealand, mainland and offshore Europe and South America, it’s a good idea to let us know what country you are in, so’s we can offer useful advice when buying stuff.

I am in UK

In that case, Mr Chaney will not deal with you directly, only via one of his two North American ‘dealers’ or maybe Gordon Watson in Australia, IF Mr Chaney is still in business.
