Welcome aboard, Michael…not to be a smart aleck or anything, but let me guess…hmmmmmm…you’re putting together a BEER train, right ? !

Geez, John, what a smart aleck! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)But thanks for the welcome!

My trains remained in storage for about 15 years after I was threatened by the ex that she was going to sell them. I sure miss her. I’ve just started collecting again after encouragement from my good friend Al Koholic. Here’s the few reefers that I have so far: USA Trains - Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Mendocino Brewery Red Tail Ale, Bear Whiz (2) and Sam 'n’ Ella. LGB - Jack Daniels, Coors, Budweiser, Miller High Life.

I thought I’d finally get on the stick and try to obtain a few more beer cars for the collection. I’m also interested in making a Harley Davidson themed train after picking up the LGB Harley box car and tank car. I’d like to find someone willing to customize a caboose to match the two HD freight cars. And then there’s the fun (and expensive) task of mounting Kadees and adding metal wheels! It never ends…

Actually, I have seen someone manufacture a Harley Davidson caboose, but I can’t remember who. Maybe MTH.

Yeah, Lou, I see that MTH does make a steel-sided Harley caboose. I’m hoping for a repaint of an older era wood-sided USA or LGB caboose to match my HD wood-sided box car and tanker:

Shawmutt Car shops would do a custom caboose for you. But I do not know what it would cost.

Hi Michael. Some of those USAT beer cars are still available from them but some you will need to search for and that is part of the fun. I have had a list of rare cars and a few have literally taken me years to find, one took me over 5 years, I call that one my unicorn.

I have the white Sam Adams car (not for sale) did you know they also make a blue one?

LGB has 2 Coors cars and don’t forget their LGBeer car.

There are so many beer cars you will have quite a collection if you get them all.

Happy RRing

Michael, LGB also has a Schlitz beer car.

Good luck with your search.

And I have a Bachmann Budweiser car around here somewhere. Oh the possibilities are nearly endless, and so would be the train.

I believe USA Trains made a Narraganset beer car also.

Beer is fine but liquor is quicker. USAT makes a Captain Morgan Rum car and you could get a LGB Coke car to ride next to it!

Suleski Transportation has a USA Bud Reefer - Budweiser Anheuser Busch R-1642 - It’s just sitting on a siding (indoor shelf)- Bought it long before all the modren boxcars came out. It has metal wheels and truck mounted Kadee couplers. Missing one step but everything else is in prime condition.

How’s $80.00 sound. I could take my better half to dinner before I go to York without her.

David, thanks for the tip about Shawmutt. Unfortunately, this is what I’m up against here:

"I will not make decals for automobile, motorcycle, or trucking companies or any that I know are licensed". (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)

I’ll ask him if he’ll do it if I send him the decals.

Todd, thanks for that. I see that the LGB Schlitz and Pabst cars are prevalent on Ebay, and will pick those up at some point. I am aware that there are two LGB Coors cars - one is a beer car and the other is a Depot G special Coors Malted Milk car. Is that what you’re referring to? I know there is an older and newer version of the USA Trains Sam Adams cars - the older one is on my list and the Octoberfest orange/blue one will have to wait. Can’t get them all at once, but you’re right - it’s fun!

Thanks, Jim! Elverta, Ca.? I have relatives down the street from you in Rio Linda and many in Sacramento. Next time I’m in Rio Linda, I’d like to visit Noel’s large scale layout. Would love to see his Santa Fe & Butthead railroad, but especially the Western Pacific Zephyr passenger train, which I remember watching go by as a kid.

.

Yes you need to see Noel & Jane’s railroad. Lots of animation and cool stuff and fishes.
