Large Scale Central

Walt Disney World RR by Scientific Toys

I came across this today at GW’s Emporium(goodwill)…

The price was right & I liked the open passenger cars’

No doubt the locomotive is a POS with no remote controller,

but I wonder if it’s possible to rip out the electrics, add a elgeebee

pickup wheel set to the tender & hard wire the motor to them using the

connector that already there?

If nothing else, the loco & tender will make a good siding queen

or a wreck…

Did I mention I really liked the open passenger cars…

It runs on 45mm rail (or the so called spec for Large Scale trains)?

Goodwill…ok how much? Higher or lower than $25?

I’d be worried about the plastic wheels holding up long term, but can’t think of a reason why it wouldn’t work. My dad found found the same set, but ended up replacing the loco with a beater LGB mogul he came across. My kids love it! He wired an iPad Shuffle into the tender to play Disney music while it runs. I agree-those open cars are pretty cool,

I was actually thinking a lot of potential for “under the knife” opportunities if the price was right …

Forgot to add that and hate to edit

get to bed Rooster

I always liked the open cars. You shouldn’t need the RC unit. Just add the batteries plug it together and the bell acts as the on/off and directional control. Turn it one way for forward the other for reverse. At least thats how my Scientific unit once worked.

PS on some the top of the steam dome acts as direction control, push to go forward push again to go back.

Rooster,

$14.99, I would have paid that for the 2 passenger cars…

Plus a bunch of plastic 45mm track that will be added to the

Lionel - Polar Express Christmas layout.

Kevin,

If the wheels fall off, there always the B’mann 4-6-0 drivetrain.

If I upgrade SWMBO’s series 5 Circus 4-6-0 to the Annie drive,

then I could transplant the WDRR Loco shell to the series 5 drive.

Vic,

Thanks for mentioning that…

turned it over & saw 2 barely legible stickers,

turned on the bright light & got out the magnifying glass…

Steam dome ~ on/off - forward/reverse

Bell ~ sounds

Now I guess I’ll have to see if I have any c-cell batteries

& give it a try to see if it works.

Some paint might help, well alot of paint…

The thing actually works!

I went to town on errands today & picked up some c cell batteries to give it a try.

After installing them & nothing happening as far as the wheels turning I took it apart to see if any wires were disconnected. I bumped the switch & the wheels began to turn… Cool!!!

Put it back together & hit the switch & the wheels still turned.

So, the wheels turn, the light works & the sound works…

Just need to remember not to turn the sound on again unless I’m trying to annoy the neighbors!

Next…

Cow catcher needs replacing & front 2 wheel truck needs to disappear

to make it into an 0-6-0.

The stickers/decals need to go and the locomotive & tender need to be

introduced to Mr. Krylon Plastic Paint.

After the current motor dies or the wheels fall off, I’ll replace the drive train.

IIRC those things make plenty of noise without the sound on.
