A logging truck ran into a sight-seeing train on the Durbin & Greenbrier RR. Two passenger cars overturned. One dead, 24 injured. Unknown at this time whether the fatality was on the truck or the train:
I saw this several hours ago. Very sad indeed.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and their families.
Also to the Durbin & Greenbrier RR and their employees.

Very sad. Unofficial report that the fatality was the truck driver who appeared not to brake before impacting the train.
This is indeed a bad event: what should have been a fantastic train ride turned into such a disaster. I hope the injured soon get well and I feel for the loved ones of the person who died.
Volunteering a a heritage line I can imagine what this means to the train company and of course the effect it will cause them. I looks a great railroad: I have seen it shown on UK tv in the Travel programme.
Yep looks like the truck driver was the fatality and the cause is still undergoing investigation…
The railroad is going forward with two other daily excursions as planned.
This particular excursion, is canceled for the next couple of days.
A lot of rumors are floating around the “net” that the entire season is canceled. Not so!

Well that is good news Ralph, even if the rest is not.
Read the Comments section is the article, one of the commenters fills in the gaps stating it was the truck driver killed and that the truck apparently made no effort to brake before the impact.
I have to say for a truck to derail rail cars involves enormous force, granted a trailer full of logs will provide a massive inertial mass. After all the truck that hit the Amtrak train in Nevada hit at highway speeds but didn’t derail any cars.
No word of if the driver had any known medical conditions.
Sounds to me, if he didn’t hit the brakes before impacting then he probable already dead or unconscious, from a heart attack.
Or was busy texting.
Not in that area he wasn’t…no cell signal…
Good thing it hit between the two cars. If it had struck a car dead-center, where the passengers are sitting, there likely would have been more fatalities.
I thought the same thing Ray. They got a spot of good luck on an otherwise unlucky day.
