W P & Y, a different look

Hi Guys,

Here is the link to a WP&Y video that my BiL shot last week while we were in Alaska.
He is not a “train guy” so his take on what should be photographed while looking
at trains is a bit different. Having said that, I think you might enjoy it.

Thanks Rick. Train guy or not, I always enjoy his videos.

I liked it. Thanks for sharing.

Great - Brought back good memories of the rides up there in 2009 and 2010.

Wonderful video Rick! Your BIL might not be a RR guy but he sure has a knack for creating a most interesting video that makes you feel like you’re actually there. Thanks for posting and please thank your “outlaw” too!

I fully agree with my nephew, Dick. As a long-time fan of the WP this really hits the button for me, too.

Funnily enough, last thursday I took a few of my locos along to the weekl y Thursday Club, run in our village for older folks who otherwise don’t get out as much as they used to. One of the locos I took was my Aster/LGB WP mike, and to my amazement, there were no less than THREE older ladies there who had ridden the White Pass, one of them a good while back when it went past Carcross!

I’d go into debt for the 1/20.3 version - although there is now an EBT mike, as yet, there is no similar WP mike in the correct scale. Funny when you consider that the WP gets over a million visitors a year…

Best to all.

Outstanding! Simply Outstanding. Best WP & Y video I’ve ever seen.

Rick,

I don’t know how a “train guy” could have approached the subject any differently… or any better. That clip really captured the moment. Your BiL certainly has a good “eye.”

Please pass along my compliments to BiL.

Cool! Man, I gotta get up there and ride that.

Can anyone recommend a good history of the White Pass? I’d love to get a good book with maps and drawings of the route.

Later,

K

Kevin go to www.wpyr.com They have an on-line store with some books.

Rick,

For a ‘non train guy’, tell him to keep shooting video. That is a great video, captures essence of the trip and the scenery. The footage of the abandoned trestle is my favorite spot on the vid. Give him a slap on the back for me.

P.S. - On my bucket list!

Holy crap …that video just occupied me for almost 10 minutes! (that is hard to do)

Excellent video, very reminiscent of riding the Overlander in Nth Island New Zealand

Thanks for all the kind comments Guys.

I will send him a link to this thread so he can enjoy your enjoyment of his effort.

Kevin,
A good reference work is “The WHITE PASS and YUKON ROUTE A Pictorial History” By Stan Cohen
Pictorial Histories Publishing Company. inexpensive paperback, probably find it through the website listed above.
