VTTX 60' flatcar rebuilds

These 3 cars I built to reflect the ones rebuilt in the mid 1980’s from old Pullman Standard Bulkhead flats. The bulkheads and wood decking was removed and pedestals installed for loading three 20’ containers. One set of flip down bolsters allowed for loading one 40’ and one 20’. 1000’s were converted and some are still in use today.

Your fleet of custom cars is growing quickly. Good job on get another not often modeled car in any scale.

Thanks Craig. 10 cars completed this year. 65 total!

That’s impressive. I’m impatiently waiting for my layout to be complete so I can start my rolling stock roster builds…

I realized how much of a mess you must have with routing PVC. I hand routed out a few chunks from a 1x4 for a building I’m working on. That was a lot of plastic scrap!

Usually near zero mess thanks to the dust boot/vac system. Here is a short vid of milling a PD hopper side from 3/4" PVC trim board. Some chips escaping due to the gap top of the work and bottom of the sweep.

That’s a neat set up. I tried holding the shop vac in one hand, feeding the board with the other… It was a mess.

When I get serious about rolling stock and have files ready I think I might ask the woodshop teacher at school if I can use the equipment after school. :crossed_fingers:t3:
