It's a curious notion that the extreme right wing puts forth these claims, offering nothing to back them up except "well, do your own research and you'll find it's true," lambasts the left for following blindly like sheep, and then robo-calls everyone with these scare tactics with the expectation that the claims will mobilize their base and spread these falsehoods; i.e., follow blindly like sheep.
It doesnt have to be true, if they repeat it enough, everyone will think its true, and thats enough. There are enough sheeple that will think "It must be true, every network is saying it" when 5 minutes of research proves otherwise.

Brian,

Would that be racism against the muslim “race”?

Here all along I thought that muslim (islam) was a religion, not a race.

Hey, thanks for correcting me.

mike,

I haven’t been paying real close attention, what thread was that?

I just voted–waited in line an hour to vote absentee, since I’ll be out of the county on election day.

Saw no signs of sinister ACORN workers. No evidence of vote fraud. Just citizens exrcising their rights

Hope your daughter’s feeling better.

Thanks Dave–she has had a series of really high fevers–over 105, to our alarm. But it seems like antibiotics have it under control

Interesting piece on “The News Hour” tonight (would’ve gone to air Thursday in the US) about young Democrats and Republicans at George Mason University.

Seems the young Dems are beating the bushes to get the vote out in Virginia. Seems the young Republicans aren’t, because the party already has a strong track record getting out the Virginia Republican vote.

It is heartening to see young people of both political persuasions taking an interest. However, the piece mentioned that the 18 - 29 voter participation rate for presidential elections is only around 50% (not sure if that stat is national or Virginia only), so there is a lot of room for greater participation in the political process by Generation Y.

GMU is a pretty evenly divided campus for the most part, but the Obama people have been MUCH more visible this year.

I’ll state my piece:

http://www.citizenlink.org/videofeatures/A000008529.cfm

Disclaimer: I’m so far right I think Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are centrists, so salt to taste.

All the talk of early voting suggests that this race is already over. Local paper this morning says that 550,000 have voted early in ILLinois and that mostly likely by the end of today 700,000 will vote early. I really didn’t thank that was very many for a state the size of this. More media hype. Early voting is pretty much a pain around here, because you have to disarm and go in the courthouse. Most people will just wait until Tuesday.

You can't argue with stupidity and/or racism.

Brain theres a reason you havent seen me diving into alot of the political rancor on this forum, I just firmly beleive no matter what I say, it will not change anyones mind.

I live by a simple philosophy, There are two types of people you cannot argue with, the Fanatic, and the Idiot. The Fanatic cannot accept any other viewpoint, the Idiot simply cannot comprehend one, and by “argue” I mean debate, discuss, etc. so I’ll just sit back and watch the monkey poop go flying…

I have to admit staying out of all the political rancor this time around has made this the most entertaining election in a long while.

Note that I don't generally post a commentary about the links, etc, that I post, and I *try* not to post links to obviously right or left leaning rags. I believe in educating the uneducated. Someone yelling "OMG, brown skin, he must be an arab/muslim/dangerous/etc..." has been listening to Rush far too much. You really need to broaden what you read and become an educated voter, not one of the great unwashed that goes along with the tide because you like a candidates haircut, or believe the obvious lies that they spread, or are a single-issue voter (don't get me started on those!).

/end rant

Bob I agree, too many people dont study the real issues, or only react to hot button issues that for the most parts are diversionary tactics to keep peoples attentions focused elsewhere and away from the really important issues. I just decided this year I could do without that stress, so for the most part I opted out of the political rancor. Been interesting to read tho.

I look at it this way, current Administration blew it, badly, and are going to get tossed by an angry public. Happens from time to time .

We’ve got two questions on the ballot here in MA (4, actually, but 2 are causing a ruckus). First one is to abolish the state income tax. I’m on the fence on this one, actually. There is, if you read the data in the latest audits, about 30% waste easily findable in the state budget. I’m all for getting rid of it, but I hold no faith in the politicians to actually cut waste, but instead cut services. ARGH! My prediction is that people are angry enough that this will pass.

Second one is to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana. Again, I’m on the fence on this one. I don’t smoke it, but studies show that its less harmful to the system than alcohol, and those people that scream “But its a gateway drug!” can’t back up their claims with studies. Again, I think this will pass.

“Again, I think this will pass.”

We interrupt this broadcast for a word from Cheech and Chong.

Wow, man. Far out. (Uncontrollable giggling.) Man, I sure do have the munchies. Got anything else besides dog food, man?

Dave’s not here.

Mike, I missed that. Is she doing better?

Steve

GOD WILL I BE GLADE WHEN ALL THIS IS OVER! I may not like who gets in there but it will be better than the endless line of BS that is on TV and the radio. Let them have a turn, they started the BIG screwup with Buba in the 90’s and now they can complete it! OH it will be so much fun to watch!

Paul

Caution: thread hijacking.

If you remember some of Cheech and Chong’s material from the 70’s, read on.

My sister just lost her husband after a long battle with various cancers. (Lung cancer finished him off.)

He hospiced at home, with many relatives, friends and clergy visiting to say goodbye.

I was called back there just after he died.

I stood next to his body looking somber, closed my eyes and said a few silent R.I.P.'s.

Someone in the room said his name, and my sister (the widow) looked at me, cracked a smile and said

“Dave?..Dave’s not here !”

I think that phrase was a running joke between them since they met in 1974.

She and the (adult) kids are doing pretty well. Nice reception, memorial service and meal.
