Von Ryans Express

Watched a great movie tonight Von Ryans Express starring Frank Sinatra as a WW2 POW that escapes with a bunch of other prisoners on a train heading to Switzerland. Good stuff and neat Euro trains. check it out when you can.

Read the original book many years ago, Sinatra’s character in the book makes it all the way to Switzerland but the film makers must have decided to make a darker ending for the cinema version.

I remember seeing that film as a first run at the Liberty Theater in Wenatchee, WA.

Suddenly, I feel old.

Don’t feel bad Steve. I watched it at the Family Drive-In in Lansdowne, sitting on the tailgate of the family station wagon, looking out over the roof of the car. Loved the flic, didn’t like the ending…

I’ve watched it a few times over the years since it came out.

Nope, just a giant screen at the end of a giant parking lot…

I grew up in Springfield, MA and as a young teenager there was a drive-in in the north end of Springfield over looking the Boston & Maine freight yards. Today it is an on ramp for RT 91 and a McDonalds.

Sinatra changed the ending.

Thought it was better then the happily ever after type.

One of my favorite Sinatra movies.

Who’s Frank Sinatra?

He was with the Beatles!

David

I wonder if you could sell tickets and make any money at it? It would be a great place for the teen-agers, too.

I watched this movie many times over the years… Great movie… The other great movie was ““12 O’clock High””… B-17 was a beautiful aircraft (once the got the tail right)…

For a old movie it’s a good one, I also just saw Runaway the other night and thought it was good as well.

Nick

Nick, do you mean “Runaway Train” with Jon Voight?

There was another TV movie from back in the 70’s called “Runaway” about a runaway ski-train plus a cheesy 80’s sci-fi flick with the same title.

I saw "Kansas Pacific" with Sterling Hayden. As with most 1950’s Horse Operas, it was kind of cheezy. It did have some good railroad scenes, though.
