Visit to the Port Orford Coast Railroad

Afternoom, All - me and mrs tac have just gotten into the door after a looooooooooooooooooong flight from Portland OR down to Dallas Ft Worth then over to London, England, after our near-month-long sojourn in Oregon.

There, we we fortunate to spend a good long four days or so with Richard and Helen who, as most of you know, live alongside the Port Orford Coast Railroad. No sooner had I closed the door of our little SUV than I was handed a Locolink throttle and told to get on with some fancy car consistin’…many photo opportunities were missed as a result of my near total ineptitude, but in spite of a few minor disasters, I soon [well, QUITE soon] got the hang of it.

A great time was had by us all, not only on the railroad, but in the beautiful local area too, in spite of the almost constant and near-horizontal precipitation and the fact that most of the local visitors centres had closed when they heard about us coming down from Eugene. However, we have had long experience of doors being closed as we approached up the path, although, of course, this did not happen at Richard and Helen’s place.

No doubt there will be piccies and Youtubian-type movies of the runs, including Dennis’s new green-boilered Accucraft S-12. What a lovely little loco THAT is, to be sure.

Meanwhile, our grateful thanks to the directors and owners of the Port Orford Coast Railroad for yet another great visit.

Terry -

We really enjoyed Richards post and pictures detailing your visit. I just love that closeup of your face. The look was priceless

Glad you made it home safely.

Glad you arrived home safely and had a good trip…can’t find a better host than ol’ Richard…

ol’ Richard? Hehe…

Yep, the POC is sure a great place to visit…and ol’ Richard and young Helen make you feel right at home.

Well, with my three-day’s of whiskers, ‘Crazy Norwegian’ hat and generally ‘lived-in’ appearance, nobody in Port Orford noticed I was there. The few days we spent there were put carefully in my memory as very special, as indeed are all such days spent with good friends.

But hey, howsabout the ‘Flying F’ logo, Richard? Given it any more thort? :lol

Best to all -

Actually you were over dressed for Port Orford. We really enjoyed having you & Gaynor, Ig & Crow.

As to the “Flying F” you suggested I think it could be developed into an excellent logo to use in the “Off Topic Forum” for the political debates there. hehehe! Would make me even more popular than I am already.

Hope you enjoyed the photos.

Glad to see you finally got young Terry, into operations. He usually only runs in circles back home.
Terry visited here only once, in spite of the fact that he claims to be related to some poor family just a few hours away. He never has returned, after hearing that we operate and don’t do much circle running.

Terry also used to brag about being accepted as a valued member of the OVGRS, but I notice that is dropped lately…I guess we didn’t pay him enough to continue the free advertisement !!!

Terry; with all your World travels, it would be nice if you could actually plan your next visit to fall in here for the next “Invasion of Friends”…you are actually still a member of the OVGRS whether you want to be or not !!!

Dear Fred - please don’t misunderstand my intentions. I am not used to operations, as you know, since, like 99% of all large scale operators here in yUK, I only run in circles. The Lord/Field/Bird family in Wooler, Orland, Trenton, Codrington, Campbellford and Frankford can be found in the phone book. The road named after them is in Wooler, BTW, next west from Grosjean. I was very proud to be associated with the OVGRS, but in view of my lack of attendance, I thought it better not to boast of something that I did not contribute to, let alone call myself a ‘valued member’.

Best wishes

tac

Terry; my fine son;

Once accepted as a “Valued Member of the OVGRS”, you always will be a valued member.
Just the thought that you used to actually brag about it, made our little hearts light up with joy, every time we saw your sigature. Please feel free to enjoy your welcome here, whenever possible. It sure would be nice if you could plan on making an “Eastern North American” tour next year, and be here for the July Invasion.

It was great to see you sharing your great humour, friendship, and company with other members of this QUALITY group from LSC, and your safe return home.

Thanks for your note.
