Thanks for viewing guys, and for the fun comments. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
It’s just not right for Godzilla to be posing peacefully…or, perhaps…
Man, that is one IMPRESSIVE mountain!
Last weekend was the big cleanup, which included touch-up painting of the deck posts and scrubbing of the blue backdrop panels.
Yesterday was all gravel work, with 2 tons delivered last thursday. Half went to paths (mainly the one in back of the new mountain), and half was moved to a storage area around the house. After moving all that at least twice (once into a transfer container or cart, once to put in place), I figger I moved 8,000 pounds of material. So I was pretty sore yesterday!
Here’s hour the mountain path looks.
This pretty much wraps this project up. Thanks for y’all sharing the project with me.
Next week I’ll hopefully begin the “flats” installation, and will post progress on that thread. [link]
Cheers,
Cliffy

Great thread Cliff. I’m watching all your build techniques with great interest.
I’m trying to figure out how to levitate them 3’ off the ground… (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)Any thoughts? (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)
Cheers

Thanks Neil, I’m pleased you’ve enjoyed my escapades.
If you’re referring to mountains being levitated, I’d think you would get a lot of fun insights from Dennis Rayon’s concrete mountain builds, because they’re quite tall. But just like the famous Gorre & Dephetid / John Allen model railroad, Dennis’s mountains go all the way to ground level.
With the weight we’re talking about with a concrete (mortar) mountain, a beefy substructure can support a lot. But a perimeter skirt going to ground is also a good idea to share the load. Just my 2 cents. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Looking great Cliffy. Looking forward to seeing the flats on it.

…
use styrofoamblocks (from packing material) as structure, chickenwire to give contours and (outdoors) portland cement, or (indoors) householdpaper and plaster.
(just don’t forget to tie them down. that they are not levitated by the wind…)
