Finished Bounty Hunter, sent pix to Lee and he loves it. Dropping it off on my way to Marty’s on Thursday. Lee lives in Lincoln, which is on the way. Sure had fun with this, will sorta miss it, but it will help pay for my new Pacific and Aristo R/C unit.

When I was in-country, the gun trucks had cannibalized APC’s on the back of 5 tons. The other trucks were the “minesweepers” where a five ton was loaded with rocks and the driver would sit on the windshield and motor the truck in reverse up and down Highway 1 south of DaNang. Crazy mo-fos, them.

We had several of the APC gun trucks in 27th Trans Battalion. I always liked King Cobra, had neat graphics on it. First gun truck model I made was of it.
Good book on Nam is ‘Tank Sergeant’. It’s set in the area between Qui Nhon and An Khe. Guy was one of the tankers guarding the side of the road, man he went through some adventures!

I got this info off Amazon. A good read, I was a tanker after Nam in our local guard unit, was a TC on several M-60 variants we went through. Stepped down when they got the M-1’s did’nt want to uptrain on another tank right before getting out.
Awesome Jerry. I have a 1:35 scale M-113 sitting on the shelf to build. I can only hope to get half the detail and realism you’ve put into those trucks.

I happen to have the Full Scale replica of the Vietnam Gun Truck “Psychotic Reaction” and worked with the Author James Lyles to get Vol 1 reprinted in 2009 in time for the GunTruck Reunion in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Nice to see your post Dan. His replica of Psychotic Reaction is AMAZING! I’d like to mention that a group in the UK built a replica of the Red Baron, which was in my company in Vietnam. Wayne Dobos(who painted/created it) flew over to see the replica. It is featured in the current issue of a UK military publication. A guy near me contacted me about making a replica of Snoopy, which was also in the 444. You can see pix of it here:

Quite a few gun trucks were made using stripped down APC shells. Paladin, Sir Charles, the Big Kahuna, Outlaw, King Kong, the Lifer and a few others. King Cobra was my favorite in my convoys and in the motor pool, had a cool cobra graphic on the side. It was my first gun truck model.

I was in DaNang, late getting to the picnic (1972-72). A gun-truck, “Lifer” sounds familiar, but many of us had names on our APCs. One I was on for a bit had, “If you ain’t cav you ain’t shit.” on the side.
We also had minesweeper trucks, deuce and half or five ton that the driver would sit on the windshield (folded down) drive in reverse with the throttle pulled out and the bed full of rocks. Those were the guys that had to be smoking something.

I make it to Kokomo, IN, Howard County Vietnam Veteran’s Reunion 13 years in a row now. Big event, 26 or 27 years old. Beau coup, fun. We get a little dinky dau, make new buds, reunite with guys we served with.

Some guys I know make it to that. I think some of the gun truck replicas make it there also, pretty sure ‘Wild THing’ does, maybe Ace of Spades, both nice guys made them, replicas of the ones they were on in Nam.
Yep “Wild Thing” and “Psychotic Reaction” were there in 2008 again.
