Video taping your layout's

How many of you guy’s out there like to watch a video that is shot from the actual loco runnning? How many would like to see what is running around the layout??? I personally like the shot or video that is shot not from the loco, but at a vantage point on the layout. You get to see what is actually running, loco, rolling stock, and you still the way the layout is laid out. What is your opinion??? The Regal

I like it all. I’ve video taped many railroads from both the Engineer’s view and also from the Conductor’s view in the caboose. We have a camera mounted on our club’s modular layout to see down the long side of what is blind to the operator’s station. I’ve seen high over head shots of complete railroads and run byes. Its all good and fun to view or take.

One thing I enjoy about open house/garden tours is the chance to video the layout. I like to shoot the overall layout as the trains move about but I have seen many a good video where the camera was onboard the train as it travelled about. Always seem to get enjoyment or something useful when viewing other’s railroads.

I like to get down in the dirt and film the action from the POV of a human eye of whatever scale. It lends a sense of reality to the film(video). There, I’ve just dated myself.

I like it all. In fact I prefer a mix of different points of view, whether it’s a model railroad or a prototype.

Although when I am visiting a real railroad, I’d much rather watch it from trackside than ride it. Riding it fun, but you don’t really get to see much of the train itself.

Depends on the layout. One like Ray’s with all that mountain topography would look cool from an engineers standpoint. Other’s that like long freights, trackside would be the better view.
