Whats the trick to posting videos from my computer or do I need to put it someplace like Youtube and post a URL?

Yep. MP4s are generally not playable in a web environment. I ran into that when I tried hosting my own videos with the old version of this site.
If you upload to a service, just posting the URL to the video will make it look embedded.
I do have a youtube account so I can easily do it that way

I just uploaded it to my Youtube and then pasted the URL. Easy Peasy.
