Got Dave’s kit yesterday, already found glitch #1 for me. The kit is 1/20.3, my layout’s clearances are for 1:22.5~1:24, So while the lenth is OK I am going to narrow the kit up a tad lest it banging into stuff.
That is OK, Vic. I’ll bring my K-27 with snow plow and widen it all out for you! I have since removed the plow due to hitting everything of my layout as well as CCRY and the club modules! I can under stand your concern.
Paul
I got the frame built, started early this AM. I just used 5 of the length wise beams instead of 6, and cut the floorboards to size and glued them down before SWMBO informed me that our neighbors were cutting out their Agave plants and that they had promised to let her collect some of them. Now if you REALLY understand marriage politics you know that means while they said she could go collect them, it really means I get to drop whatever I had planned and rush out and start digging… So now its noon, taking a break listening to Wait wait dont tell me on NPR with 4the new Agaves planted in the front yard and 6 in pots in the back.
Hope to get back to the kit tonight. Planning a transfer caboose, or something like that.

Oh, the things I have to look forward to in the future

look forward to your work with the kit
OK with the wife watching Downtown Abbey or whatever that show is, I have some time to posts some pics of the work I started last night, had to find a larger area to do the frame.

Finally adding all of Dave’s pins I have gotten to this point:

I am pilfering trucks off another car, and adding whatever bits I can scavenge from the parts pin, next comes paint.
Looks good Vic. Still waiting on my kit so I can get started.
Looks great Vic! Like the use of wood trim under the caboose body.
Started painting it, green zinc chromate, will take at least 2 coats or more, so no new pics until that is done.
Base painting is done, wheels added:

With some barrels loaded, next up some lettering and weathering, I got till Feb to finish right?

This will be used as a crew transfer car and maybe as the spacer car that is pushed onto the car barge on the Gotham Harbor layout. Locomotives were prohibited from going onto the barges to shunt cars, as the weight shift could upset the barge, so a string of flatcars or gondolas would be used as idler cars to go onto the barge for shunting cars on and off, sometimes one of the idler car would have a shack set up so the train’s shunting crew had shelter during the winter months, that’s where the idea for this came up.
I like it…Looks really good Vic!!!
That looks great Vic. I like the color.
Shiny!
OK, guess iz done first Weathered and detailed, I have added the truss rods since these pics were taken:

Came out pretty well, I’m happy with it
Nice job. I’m stuck because I need some O-scale trucks! I am making this in 1:32 narrow gauge, so had some cutting and replacing kit parts to do. That went OK, but trucks not so much! I’ll be adding some steps, etc, 'til Friday.
That’s no fair, Vic: Rooster didn’t even get a chance to ask you: “Is it done yet?”
Thats OK John. I got board and decided to use Dave’s leftover wood parts to build a tank car. Just finished the frame will post pics sometimes this weekend.
So Rooster can ask me about that one

OK here is my Challenge entry, along with the above pics
This Challenge really got my juices flowing and as a result I did 3 other quick bashes after I finished the caboose. But they are not part of the challenge, they are just for my fun.
Here is the whole resulting consist, the “Challenge” Transfer Caboose, the “Left Over Parts” Tank Car, the “I need something to do” Flatcar, and “Man I Gotta Try This Idea” Boxcab:
