Bought all the PTDF for the inside walk aisle. All the cap blocks were fixed down today, chalk lined the dirt fill level onto the inside of the blocks. Now comes the dreaded part, hacking down the bamboo and reshifting all the dirt. I’m finding the shoveling is great exercise. Nothing done with the chimney so far. Can’t really use this as my challenge as I’ve already blown the $30 limit by quite alot.
Hows the bamboo flooring on your MIK project coming?

Well … considering I just managed to glue the durn chimney together. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
I might be out of this already, I finally got the tape off the station and opened it up and wow it’s a mess! Lots of loose parts, all the walls come apart some trim looks missing as is maybe a window and a door. Lots of sorting out to do.
Outside is better, I got out two good sized bamboo root balls. Three more to go. Started shoveling more dirt against the retainer walls and figured out what to do at the chain link fence. I think I’m just going to have to pile up all the cuttings into contractors trash bags as I go an dispose of what I can each week.and that’s with filling up two 100 gallon trash cans.
Vic,
A split bamboo outhouse with a fire place is right up your alley.
rest assured, Vic, your Mik Project cannot possibly be a bigger mess than mine. Thus far, I have screwed up or ran into ‘issues’ with every cut, everything glued together, and every bit of material intended for this project. I mean, mistakes happen - a couple weeks ago a piece of Plexiglas for another building ‘broke wrong,’ but this is getting ridiculous.
Slap plaster on that root ball, add the chimney and a round door and it’s a hobbit home, Bobs your uncle.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
Thanks guys, I got the station parts all together in a box. Another surprise today was I broke my shovel! Fiberglass handle broke right at the base, shocked me, I thought fiberglass work tools were near indestructible… apparently not. No worries pick up a new heavy duty shovel right before Ace closed.
Vic,
You can borrow my crew for the landscaping (you pay airfare, boarding, and chow) if that’ll help you get back on track! The dirtier the job, the better.
Eric
Yes, Vic, fiberglass handles can and do break. I have a shovel here that is all but useless because the handle fractured the long way along the shaft - go to lift anything more than a pound, it simply folds, (might have something to do with below zero temperatures)
I work for a water utility. We go through a few shovels. We stopped buying fiber glass. We break them far faster than wood ones.
I switched to fiberglass handles because the wood handles dry out, crack and split and I got tired of getting splinters from the dried wood.
Progress!!! …well outside. Tree is gone pounded about 30 copper tacks into the stump so that should kill the rest of it. Walls are grouted and caps fixed. All the new Saltillo pavers arrived Friday so I go them down and sanded in place. Got the first PTDF wood interior wall fixed in place, and got about a quarter of the bamboo out, still finding tree roots to pull up. Luckily the ground where the bamboo is, is higher than the finish grade so I just dig down around the roots and break the roots into pieces, it’s laborious but effective.
…and I didn’t get a chance to work on the station but that’s okay because I also started a new locomotive kitbash. Oh well, Still got three weekends to dig, I mean glue.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
Well, Vic, I must say, your landscaping project looks damn good. I hope you get to finish your challenge project but if not, I’ve certainly enjoyed watching you work your a$$ off while sit back, relax and have a few cold ones. What’s our your next major project?
Hows the budget doing vic, I mean a rock walk way and block retaining wall seems like more than $30

That’s assuming I can get the garage cleared out enough to finish it. It’s not my stuff blocking things, but I’m working on that.
