Vic's 2014 Building Challenge - Mik's Waffle House

go by Williards and pick up a few batteries while you’re out…

Pretty neat. Love the printable stuff…almost makes me wish I modeled inside.

Vic, Nice Job. I detect a running theme with the Challenge builds from you. Last year you whipped out car after car in the first days, then added an engine, and then some more cars. Now this year, less then half way thru and you’ve whipped out nearly a city block, and three weekends left. Whats next? a Hot dog stand and a sales shack in the parking lot?

Still waiting for that Big Boy to turn up on the pizza.

Thanks guys

Dave not this year, this pair will fit nicely in a spot on the harbor layout. If I get too far ahead and finish early then I still have the Johnson to work on.

Bruce, I’ve said it before, compared to all the weather and varmit proofing that has to be done outside, us indoor guys can get away with m-u-r-d-e-r-!

Hi Vic,
I LOVE your buildings. They both are so neat. I’ve used Jim’s dollhouse site on occasion too. Used to love the “stain glass windows” he offered in a couple of different scales…
What did you use for the main walls? When you showed the N-scale in the first writing, not sure HOW you sized it up to G… Interior of the Waffle house is stupendous…
Elaine
P.S. After reading your last quote I understand the way you can get away with some building codes… Photos really hold up beautifully INSIDE!!

Elaine Thank you,

The main building material is 3/16" foam-core boards, available at most Micheal’s crafts stores. As for sizing it up I used the N model as a guide on a CAD program to draw the walls and elevations, although once I started cutting I usually just build to suit my eye, having alot of experience doing architectural building models helps with that.

Jim’s Printables are on a good number of things on my layout, as are detail miniatures from a shop near me called ‘Folk Tree’ with imports miniatures used for Mexican Day of the Dead windowbox displays.

I have pics of the salon interior also (I’ll post this weekend) but I had to fudge the mirror (silver paint behind clear plastic) as I ran out of challenge money. I will remedy that once the challenge is over with a mini-mirror from Micheal’s (or unless I turn up a discarded makeup case mirror somewhere).

Got batteries so a few more pics, added a quick sidewalk, got a new chef figure from Hong Kong and made a balsa wood cash register.

Still need to add clear plastic windows, want to spray matte medium over everything and still a few things to do before that

Nice Art Deco design!

Vic that is awesome!

Those are looking great!

OK… sidewalk glued to roadway base, both buildings are glued down, lightly weathered and glazing installed.

I’m going to trawl the Free Printables again for a few little thingies but for the most part, I think it be done!

Pics Sunday evening.

Fantastic looking buildings Vic, did you use the same core-board for the sidewalks? And since I’m new to this forum, who are the judges, and when does that take place? I guess no one has to physically send in their buildings? So the pictures have to tell the entire story?
I don’t know how to upload pictures here, can you advise?
Thanks, Elaine

Elaine, yes its all foam-core, with cardstock strips to cover the ends.

Rules are posted in the first post here:

http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/20515/mik-s-build-challenge-2014

The Judges are fellow LSC forum members, yes its all based on the photos.

As for posting pics, that seams to be an issue depending on what computer system your using, where your images are hosted and what the humidity is.

I would send Bob a message or post that question on the website forum as it seams to vary from use system to another, that way your more likely to get the specific info you need.

Done

Will repost pics in the Finished Entries thread

Sweet!. I’m ready for some waffles…

Well done. Love all the details.

Doc Tom

Crap, now I’m hungry…

Well done, Vic! I like!

Fantastic Job Vic,

I love all of it, especially the “animals” you’ve added… Thanks for your other note too, I just got busy and could not find the time to get back to “play with pictures”, but I will… Good Luck, you almost need to have your own category, as I don’t think “indoor buildings have to be the same as outdoor ones”… Elaine

P.S. Ken & Gang,

Waffles are the new in thing to make everything unusual, has anyone seen Rachel Rae’s shows, she’s been doing a “waffle week” bunch of entries: like french fries, devil’s food cake, brownies, etc… Sounds like great fun…
