VERY IMPORTANT DATE: July 2nd 2013 will be John Allen’s 100th birthday. First thing in the morning, have a JAM (John Allen Memorial) flapjack or, second choice, JAM toast, and, raising a mug of coffee (or tea) in a salutation to John, recall to mind the fabulous G&D RR and all the inspiration he gave to the hobby.

Strawberry jam is most appropriate as strawberries are the chief crop in the Monterey-Mt Carmel area. Enjoy your breakfast.

Other ways of marking this date with some homage to the wizard of Monterey are in order. Do tell us what you plan! As for myself, I shall display a few models built intentionally in John’s pioneering freelance style.

I was an HO modrler when we had John. I still miss his skill and often think of him when working on the layout.

I will toast him with strawberry jam on my bagel and a large cup of coffee!
