V8 steam loco

This is a strange one… apparently this was an experimental German steam loco that had 8 cylinders and pistons, arranged in a V like the engine of a car!

I found some more info about it, including additional photos and drawings:

It actually had four V2 engines, one engine for each driving axle.

After the war the locomotive was brought to the US for study and tests, then scrapped.

Here’s another freak of science:

http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/swissHP/swissHP.htm

It’s a Swiss loco which had a high pressure boiler and a three cylinder enclosed engine, powering a jackshaft through a reduction gear. Really ugly loco, apparently it had problems with scale in the boiler tubes.

The German loco is pretty cool. Sad they didn’t save it.

Hi all, Here is a V8 steam locomotive for you. Check under the hood, errr in the smoke box.

Wow. That is just… so wrong… and yet so cool!

Wonder if it has a 4 speed?

And the question that is on everybody’s mind… “Is it a Hemi?”

Something tells me we will not see that one on Pinks.

Dual glass packs?
