USS NEW YORK (LPD-21) COMMISSIONING

NAVY EVENT OF THE CENTURY
THE USS NEW YORK’S CHRISTENING
Saturday March 1st 2008 at 10:00 AM
By Scott Koen

It’s been 2362 days since the twin towers were knocked down in the sneak attack on 9-11.

On September 13, 2001, President Bush told the world “We will Never Forget”.

And now, on March 1st 2008, A US Navy ship, built from those very towers, with the motto “Never Forget” will be christened“New York”.

Don’t miss it this weekend. View it live in a web-cast from Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Avondale LA. Watch as the ships sponsor, Mrs. Dotty H. England breaks the ceremonial bottle of champagne across her bow and proclaims, ”I christen thee New York”. Out of our greatest sorrow comes an even greater symbol of our resilience. The USS New York’s importance to this City, State and Nation cannot be underestimated. There is no other ship in world history that will carry the import and prestige that this vessel carries. She will become America’s greatest naval ambassador and will carry our flag to the 4 corners of the world throughout the 21st century. The webcast will be available live beginning at 0900 (CST) on 1 March, 2008. It will be available at that website following the livecast, as well.

Fair Winds and following seas to the USS New York and the US Navy-Marines Corps team.
Godspeed.
