Does anyone know the actual make/model of the connectors that USAT uses for the motor blocks, etc? The black two-position ones? I’d like to order some shells and pins to have on hand. I did find some pigtails online, but I’d prefer to crimp them directly.
Eric, I believe they are 2 Pin JST. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WGN56V2/ref=s9_dcacsd_dcoop_bw_c_x_4_w
That’s it! Thanks. Here’s the manufacturer’s data: http://www.jst-mfg.com/product/detail_e.php?series=238
And Digi-Key part numbers for future reference.
Eric, the only thing you forgot to mention is the special crimping tools needed to make up the pin/socket joints. Regular crimpers for automotive solderless connectors will not do the trick, way too large.
I have some small crimper dies that work well for 0.1" pitch connectors. I assume they’ll do the trick here.
Eric, look here some time:
The search function actually functions on my site.

The "search function actually functions on this site as well " !
Not really sure why you spend so much time on this site if your site is the dominant one of the pack?
I did search THIS site, and didn’t have any luck. The search function is pretty terrible.

Well ok then I guess I stand corrected !
There is always the DONATE button to possibly correct this issue or just use other sites where the search function works ?
So Rooster, you do run hot and cold…
Yesterday you broke the code, and cracked me up.
Today, you really think the search function works well on this site, it does not, but you know, use google to search this site it works pretty well.
In Bob’s “defense” pretty hard to beat google’s search and indexing system. (It just turns out my web site software is pretty good, no accident (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif))
But anyway, my site is there to help other people, and make stuff easy to find.

I was able to provide Eric with the information because I happen to have this page bookmarked http://ovgrs.org/the-trains/battery-power-radio-control-and-sound/usa-trains-nw-2/
Search engine on that site seems to work too (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)http://ovgrs.org/?s=connector
that’s google search, not a search function built into the site… if you look at my top menu, search is on the top right of the menu on every page
Greg
Try this site for connectors that are used in USA trans and also for Aristo battery plugs

Those have wires attached, though. I was looking for the shells and pins to crimp myself. I ordered some from Digi-Key, so I’m all set. Thanks!
Ahh, determined!
I have a collection of crimper tools for this type of connector, started with molex, they can be pretty specific, and the tool pretty darn expensive.
Sometimes I will buy them with wires attached, pull the pins, open them with an x-acto, put in new wires, re-crimp and solder… pain, but beats buying a $50-$200 crimper for just a few.
Greg
p.s. Kevin, alleletronics is the site I’ve referenced on my page for about the last 10 years.
Why would you want/need to replace precrimped wires? Isn’t that the whole idea of buying them like that?
Eric,
If you want to help support an advertiser here RLD has them in 2,4,and 6 connector. So does Reindeer Pass.
