USA's GP 38 paint problems

My USA GP 38-2 was purchased new three years ago. Anyone else experiencing paint cracking into puzzle-like pieces? While still intact to the body, the Union Pacific color scheme - both gray and the yellow - is breaking into a crazy quilt of broken sections. Some have left the body shell.

The engine has been stored inside at room temperatures. Outside running is once every two weeks for two hours max.

Even if repainted, the question is whether there is something inherent in the plastic that is repelling, over time, granted, the paint. Of course, the decals and loco body information would be lost. I doubt very much Charles Roe has those decals and lettering available.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Wendell

Probably a bad paint run. I’ve not really heard any other complaints. I’d strip it and repaint. See Stan Cedarleaf for decals.

Cool.
Let her look like the prototype.
