USA TRAINS GP-7/9

The articles on the OVGRS club web site about installing radio control, battery power, LED lights, and sound in a USA Trains GP-9 were just updated . The section on installing LED lights was simplified and improved. The section on installing the Revolution receiver and Phoenix Sound P8 wires was GREATLY simplified.

I abandoned my practices of changing the tiny sound board and receiver wires in their miniscule connectors to colour match them, and removing those that were not used; as too many people including myself were damaging the irreplaceable connectors and wires. Now the wires are just installed in order. KISS

Some of the throttle keys have maintained a clue as to their sound function: aBc for Bell, jkL for Less sound volume (Fred’s favourite), Mno for More sound volume; but that was just by coincidence. I placed a small label on the back on my throttles listing the sound functions and their corresponding throttle keys so that anyone borrowing it can easily activate the ones they want.

Very good Paul.

Just a suggestion for colour blind dummies like me. Would you be so kind as to show what the colours actually are. Then when I ask someone to pick out the Blue or Purple wires, for example, they don’t get confused.

I guess I could print the colour on each swatch, although each of the P8 and Revolution sound wires is identified with a wire code and they go on in order. The hard part I figuring out which screw terminal they are supposed to be fastened in.

These non Plug and Play installations sure have a lot of wires!
