USA Trains Aluminum Passenger Cars

The car I remember had a bar in the “center”, a semicircle, and there was the “seam” between the 2 halves that ran across the car, and also split the bar in 2 parts, you could see and feel a little movement there.

I’ve never seen any pictures of this car.

Well, I was lucky enough to finally find a USA Trains Western Pacific F3 A/B set. For some goofy reason the WP sets were discontinued a few years ago - the only way you could find a motorized “B” unit was to buy the A/B set, but USAT is still offering the WP “A” unit. So all I have to do now is start collecting the California Zephyr aluminum passenger cars for it, which were just re-released with LED’s in them. I’m glad USAT decided to put LED’s in these cars now - I understand it’s a b**** to take them apart to convert the lighting. So now I’ll save my pennies and save my dimes, and then there’s the conversion to battery power and sound, which ain’t gonna be cheap either. Lessee, Father’s Day, my birthday, and Christmas is coming up…gotta make my list and check it twice.

Anybody else contemplating buying the new USAT streamliner cars? I really like the looks of the new Pullman cars too!

Naw, not on my allowence.

I think the 12 cars I have and the AABBBA motive power will be enough, although the Zeyphr would be very cool to have.

I’m going to sell my Aristo HW consist and buy something like 10-12 of the USAT HWs when they arrive… can pull that with the F3’s and steam, have a hudson to pull it, and also 2 K4 pacifics “tweaked” might pull it.

I also gotta set up my PA’s. Have an ABBA set of them (or it might be ABBBA have to check) and that should be cool with either consist.

Lots of work to do, since all the USAT’s have skates and traction “axles” replaced with “solid” ones, and then I need to add weight to compensate.
