Anyone have one of the USA 44 tonners? Was thinking of bashing one into the Plymouth that they used in Vietnam. Think it would be a good base? Maybe an RS-3, this looks sorta long.

I have 3 of them. I don’t know anything about the Plymouth you would like to bash it into. I think an RS3 maybe tooo Long. The 44 tonner is better than half the size of the rs3. The 44 tonner is a great little puller. However with that said, if you get one be sure to check the axles on the trucks. All 3 of mine suffered from the USA trains broken axle issue. I have been toying with the idea of turning a 44 tonner in to a GE 70 tonner.
Hey Jerry,
We had a 44 Tonner at McCoy AFB FLA. Orlando. It brought in fuel for our Aircraft B-52, KC-135, U-2 recons (Cuba). I took rides for fun (train spotting) out to pick up tank cars, it was like Disney World is now. This was before Disney World 68>70. Waiting for the big flash but enjoying the swamp and jungle with gators (real).
Jerry,
I had two. Like Todd, both mine had the dreaded split gear disease on all axles.
I have one in my traveling group of engines. I think its a great runner.
