Shawn, Thats a 1st run unit from many many years ago, TAS has been out of business for a long time.
Good luck finding one of those. Someone here may have one lying around.
Nick
Do I need a new mount to go with smoke unit?
How would you go about installing a new unit?
Sean
I’m not sure as mine are 2nd and 3rd run Loco’s. Ive only seen pictures of the Train America Studio’s unit upside down and not sure of how it was wired. My suggestion is to call Mike in
USAT’s parts department tomorrow and tell him you have a 1st run Loco. I’m sure there’s a fix
for mounting and wiring. Or Email Greg E. as I know he was testing one years ago might
have a quick fix.
So when USA changed from the TSA unit did they also change the mounting hardware?
What is the main cause of failure to these units? Can it as simple as used up wick?
I guess I’ll have to visit Mike 2 USA , and see what he has to say.
OK I talked with Richard Beverly, and he walked me thru the break down of the unit.
He knows this unit from his O scale days.
The motor was all gummed up.
The fan was pulled off the motor shaft.
Two tiny srews hold the motor to the housing.
The motor was sprayed with contact cleaner.
Once cleaned the motor hummed.
The motor was reinstalled into the housing.
The fan was then reinstalled.
The wick was OK, but since I had the unit apart I replaced the wick.
All things were cleaned up . The unit was put back together.
The unit was set up electronically, then tested.
