Hello, i have been looking for replace wheels for awhile does anyone know where to get them. i would to replaced them with the solid wheel and no traction bands.
Our own RLD Hobbies lists them as out of stock, so I guess you cant get them there.
NWSL sells replacement wheels as well. Requires a bit of work to get them to fit, but nothing to hard to accomplish.
The stock wheels are nickel or chrome plated brass.
NWSL makes wheels in nickel plated brass, nickel silver and stainless steel, but not all wheels available in all materials.
Looking at their online catalog, they say they have Nickel Silver wheels for the Aristo Prime mover diesels. But I have a friend that has found out the hard way they do not, but apparently they are taking a looks at it.
So, as it was before, the online catalog is BS, not much relationship to what is really available. All I can say is call and order and see what appears in the mail.
We’ll see what they come up with for my friend.
Greg
Greg,
I ordered years ago replacement Nickel Silver wheels from NWSL, and never had a problem. That said it was before the original owner sold the business. Are you saying that the new owners at NWSL aren’t keeping up with the production, or the website is out of date? I’ve heard of a lot of people in the smaller gauges (HO, N, O & S) ordering from NWSL recently and not having any problem.
IF you do order replacement wheels from NWSL be sure to order the Semi-Scale flanges, NOT the Exact Scale.
The way I read Jim’s post is that he just wants to replace the traction tired axles with solid wheels???
The R22-135’s
Paul, that’s what I got out of the post too. So, that’s what I went looking for, for him.

How come Jim?
For aesthetic purposes or another reason?
yes I am looking for replacement. wheels that are solid i dislike the traction tires. however i have learned that plated wheel excuse me. SUCK. i removed the sliders from the trucks due the shoe wanted ti destory the turnouts.
If you talk with the parts dept at USA trains, they are very helpful. I’ve gotten rid of all the USA traction tired axles. It’s better on the gears.
If you desire more accurate sized wheels, NWSL people can help. I installed their’s on my USA GP. I had to cut back the sideframes for more clearance to get them to fit. They also make the stock replacement sizes.
These companies are there to help. Some simple communication goes a long way.
Most of my plated wheels aren’t anymore, at least on the treads.
Rooster, I too want to ditch the traction tyres, and I did buy enough drive wheels last year to do so. Its like #786 on my to do list…
Craig: Yes to both. The website is not a reflection of what they really have, especially in the area of the wheels with tapered holes for Aristo motive power.
And for a number of years, it appeared there was NO production, at least in LS, parts were limited to what was on hand.
Joe M. has been working with them, and they told him they got new equipment, and are “looking into” making the wheels for Aristo motive power.
I’ll report back when something concrete happens. When the wheels for Aristo were ordered and received they did NOT fit the axles, they were NOT tapered holes.
