We operated some trains in Vietnam, this one was south of me(Qui Nhon) in Tuy Hoa. Ran from the air base there into town. Thought you might find it interesting. Anyone make this locomotive?

Neat photos. As far as the loco goes, the last picture caption said: Here’s U.S. Army No. 1995 (a Plymouth CR-8D) pulling a load of pipe
Thanks Jerry, for the link.
Cool pictures, indeed.
There are two different locomotives in the pictures.
He mentions quite a bit about the rail cars in the text, but I didn’t see anything on the other locomotive.

Interesting information on that site. Thanks for posting the link. Military trains are a big part of our HO scale layout:

Here’s a shot Randy Recht took of one down near Saigon.

Guess no one makes this engine?
Jerry, most of the larger Military diesel engines that were built and used over seas were ““Special”” engines… Most were shorter in height than engines used in the US, to allow for the lower clearences… Also, they were design to have the trucks easily switched out, to enable them to be configured for different guages used all over the world… There wasn’t really a huge quantity of these engines built, so I doubt if any manufacturer would make one in a production line… One could probably be scratch built… That last picture could be the basis for the dimensions of the engine, if one knows the dimensions of the truck on the flatcar…
Thanks for the info Andy. The Transportation Museum may have some info/sizes. IF I get that far on actually doing it, got some other stuff going right now.
We have a club member that worked with the Military Railroad in Nam. He has over 5,000 slides and shares some at each one of our Winter Gathering Meets in February. It starts in 2 weeks, here in Carlyle. Always good Saturday night fun.
Ric, I’d like to see any pix he has of this locomotive, found this drawing online someplace. Aristo/USA trucks are the right size, so I may look into building this, as if I need another project! Scales out to about 20" long, 3 3/4" between the axles on the trucks.
