Urgent plea to Oregonians who love trains

Dear All - yet again I am making no apologies for going public on a subject close to my heart, and to the hearts of many of us here.

To those of you lucky enough to live in Oregon, and those, not so-blessed, who have been there and shared the dream of Ray and Kathleen Robinson as we have over the years, matters are coming to a head.

Here is the latest news, driven on by heartless beaurocrats in Lane County Hall - I won’t print it out here, just read Ray’s site to see what is going on.

http://members.peak.org/~kmr3/M&LKRailroad

Anyone who has a moment to spare, please add your $0.02 to the support we are giving these people - Remember, mrs tac, the ig and I have been there and seen it for ourselves at first paw, and I strongly bleeve that anybody else who has done so will come to the same conclusion.

There are some things worth keeping, and some worth getting rid of.

The Meadows and Lake Kathleen Railroad is a real heritage site for all of us who love trains, big and small - so give the Robinsons your support and write now.

We have.

tac & mrs tac and the family ig

It looks like if they hadn’t invited scouts there one weekend, no one would have known it is there.
He needs to lock the gate and enjoy it among family and friends only from now on.
It’s too bad it has come to this.

Maybe they can classify it as “Art”. The “art-sy fart-sy” Northwest PC liberals love that sort of stuff.

Thank you, Mr Hill, for yet another example of your tolerant and understanding view on life.

I wonder if, having ruined this thread, would you now move to another part of the site and spread your poisonous little opinions around a bit more?

Just so’s that those of us who come here to talk about trains and railroads and the folks who build them can get on with things?

This is a concern not only for those who love trains, but for every land owner.
A case where common sense has been thrown out the window and some pencil pusher is drawing a hard line on the regulations.
As remote as the location is…sharing it with the world on the web may very well have caused their grief.
I hope at some point common sense will prevail.

What the heck are you talking about. Man, you are thin skinned.

The idea about claiming the RR is “art” was from a citizen complaint while I was a Township Zoning Officer. We could not demand removal of an old rusty truck in a front yard, because it had a flower-bed around it and was called “art” by the homeowner. One man’s art is another man’s junk.

Now go find something worthwhile to complain about like our children being sent to war or spending our grand-children’s paycheck before they get out of high-school.

Jeeze!

Well if that just ain’t the neatest little railroad I have ever seen! What a great way to improve a plot of land for both man and nature. So call me a tad dense if you wish, how can I as a non-Oregonian help? Seems a dreadful shame to lose such a place.

It’s just another case of government doing what government does best – screwing people.

This is something that has worried me ever since I started my layout. I've been very hesitant about letting neighbors know about it, trying to limit it to only those on our block. And I would never let anyone put it on the news or in the papers.

I don’t think there’s anything at all illegal about my layout, but the fact is there are so many obscure, irrational rules it’s impossible to be sure. And there are plenty of power-mad twits willing to burn you if you unwittingly violate some idiotic rule.

I wrote a short note of support to these folks. I find it amazing that a group of local and regional bureaucrats are able to attack what is an obvious careful restoration of the property under the guise of government authority! Just look at the over-grazed cow pasture they have restored to a natural treasure. I’m certain part of the reason for the opposition is to make Ray & Kathy throw in the towel, thus allowing the government to take over the property. That is a common tactic here in The People’s Republic of California.

Happy RRing,

Jerry

Sigh…I’ve actually had two run ins with bureaucraptic stupidity…once a county “code enforcement officer” tried to tell me I needed a building permit…because a municipality 20 miles away required them…suffice it to say…my town doesn’t…not to mention he was trespassing by town ordinance because my property is totally enclosed by a fence (weird little rule that one, but basically if my property is totally fenced off then I’m pretty much immune to any other ordinance). The 2nd one was because an idiot on the zoning board who lives on the next block over claimed I was obviously building an amusement attraction in a residential neighborhood, turns out it was all because I was “making his dog nervous” and it barked the whole time I was outside in my own yard working on the railroad (yeah it was 8-10 hours a day sometimes)…he has since moved…I think If I were the Robinsons…I’d run fer County Government…

Dear Mr Buttwipe - since you obviously have nothing but acrimony and snide remarks to offer on THIS thread, please go hijack another thread on another forum, is what I meant…

Comparing the 12-year long efforts of Ray and Kathy Robinson with a junked truck just shows how little attention you’ve paid to the actual contents of this thread.

If you had spent a tenth of the effort writing Lane County Hall with your support as you have with writing shite on this forum I’d be willing bet that most of their troubles would be distant memories by now.

FYI - I WAS one of the those children sent to war. Not once, but many times, for over thirty years.

And MY granddaughter will be pretty rich, thanks to MY efforts, never mind how much I spend now.

Now please go boil your head, or take some meds.

tac, getting seriously pissed off

Do what I did and write to all the Oregonian Senators and Congressmen/women you can find, and to Governor Ted Kulongoski as well.

I did last night, and have already received three supportive replies.

Here are a few to be getting on with…

Gov. Kulongoski, just an address, 900 Court St. N.E. #254, Salem, Oregon, 97301 [I wrote him since he IS the State Governor and in any case, he has a US-only based response form]

State Senator Jeff Kruse: just an address, 900 Court St., Northeast Suite S209, Salem, Oregon 97301 [Same there]

Remember that we live in UK…if WE can care, why not you guys as well?

I NEVER claimed the Robinson’s setup was junk. You misread my post either deliberately or inadvertently. I too, “went to war” and we should be able to agree that it is not a place we want to send our grand-children.

tac, you have some serious issues going on. I wish you well.

You’ll feel better  This is a very neat railroad. I hope they are able to overcome the opposition.

thank you for posting this info and doing the lag work to find it. I will draft a letter as soon as I get home from work today and let them know what I think.

Just goes to show you, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER sign for anything unless you know what it is ahead of time. If it was me and I had the money I would do exactly what they said and provide them with just what they want and provide all the studies they want. I would only hire people outside of Oregon so as not to put any revenue into the state economy. Provide 100,000 page reports for everything so it took them 10 years to read and understand everything and so they needed to hire 100 new people just to deal with my case. Oh by the way I think Cabellas has a sale on shotguns.

Oh I feel threatened. Such a childish comment. What are you, 13 years old?
