They make a BIG difference in operating enjoyment!
I have one on each of my engines…

Matt ,you might not be so grateful for fitting one to your Shay - unless you have the two-cylinder version. The reason is simple - the ‘Shay shuffle’ you hear from the real deal, especially the bigger three-cylinder Shays, is so rapid that the isolated chuff noise you get with a regular rod engine is almost totally absent. The only 3-C Shay I ever heard sounded just like an extra noisy model Shay.

Of course, your opinion may differ.

Hey Tac, mine is for the two cylinder mich-cal shay and I had previewed it beforehand only on YouTube. from what I could tell, I liked the sound of it. I got mine outfitted the other day but have yet to steam up and hear her new sounds. I will be sure to post the aftermath of the conversion. Thanks for the input Tac.

Mark was selling those at Marty’s like hot cakes. Even helped with installs.

I installed one on my K4 this year while at DH sure got a lot of attention. Really makes a difference. Later RJD

They are nice on the Aristo Mikados also.
