I’m guessing some twenty-something recent Harvard MBA graduate at UP, who knew nothing about model trains, was shocked that the UP logo was being used without remuneration. And by god he was going to change that.
It took a little time for UP to figure out they looked unamerican in beating up on railroad hobbyists.

My understanding is that the person was female…a lawyer hired by UP from the current administration in DC.

It could have been…but it wasn’t, and for all I know she may have worked for the previous one too The idea here is that she’s a fairly recent addition to the UP stable…last 5 years or so and as you stated Steve, she knew absolutely nothing about railroading or the hobby industry. But now it’s water over the dam(n)…we won ahd Uncle Pete had to back peddle. I see this as a great victory for the hobby industry.
Some day I just might even forgive the UP and allow their stuff back on my layout.

What What What???
You mean someone actually made a legal descision that was LOGICAL?
AND mutually benificial???
Unheard of!!!
Well at least now you UP guys wont have to change all yer logos to “Onion Pacific”
Hhmmm, that actually might be rather interesting!
Hi all,
Somewhere in another thread there was mention of GREED; that’s all the UP licensing fees amounted to, at least in my opinion.
If they really needed that tiny drop of money and didn’t calculate the PR effect, hmmmmmmmm …
Hi,
The UP royality fees question has been settled. Why kick a dead horse?
Let´s steal somebodody elses possession. There are enough firms which claim the rights about using their own name where they want to. And which hate to see their names printed on some rotten or mismade model of a manufacturer. Use the logo of the Swiss/Canadian model tree fellow. He will not mind.
Have Fun

A German acquaintance of mine likes to phrase it like this:
“Was kümmert es die Eiche, wenn sich ein Schwein an ihr reibt.”
“Does the oak worry, when the pig rubs up against it.”
But I can only stand the smell of a pig for so long…
