Large Scale Central

UP #80. The Coal Turbine Build. (Finally)

I have talked about making a model of this loco for at least 15 years that I can remember and spoke to many people about it. Mainly because I just did not know how to go about starting it. Finally bit the bullet a couple of years ago and started on the tender for it first. After a heap of trial and many errors in the making and starting over, here is the tender. ( there is a thread on another site that I put this up on as well. That was a while ago before I got really sick.)

I made the body from sheets of acrylic.

The top and bottoms are 1/4 round and the radius was perfect. ( I did say this was all trial and error)

I got the centipede section and front truck from Ray Manley. This shows the making of the top of the tender.

The hand rails I made out of piano wire. That stuff is HARD

The lid slides open and shut.

These rails were also piano wire and the stanchions i made out of split pins

The cut out for the coal loader drive

The vents I made from Buttons that I ground flat on the top.

There is more to do but I think you get the picture. I have started on the Control unit. That is a MTH PA as a donor and I will post photos shortly of that along with a couple of questions on making air tanks to go on the roof.
