Large Scale Central

UP 4-8-4 #844 departing Blackwater, Missouri, 31 May

A pleasant Tuesday in May. 2min 30sec video. Were 2 whistle blasts for signal releasing brakes and moving forward, missed first blast. Forward movement starts 30 seconds in. Great vid!
I like the flag on the tender and the Heritage helper as well.
What’s the red light on the smokebox for?

For when it’s being towed backwards…

IIRC it was to illuminate upon emergency brake applications.

Played in Google a bit. "Red screens were used on some of these lights as signals of the train stopping or an emergency braking situation. Red was chosen because it not only emphasizes the signal but its transmission distance under unfavorable atmospheric conditions is greater than for white light. forrest great video. 844 will be in St. Louis on display all day friday and is go thought on tracks about a mile from my house thursday. I cant get off work to see it go by but I am going down after work on friday to see it and hope to see it saturday when it leaves.

Aww, thanks guys.
Thought it would be kinda neat to have the soldier guy in there on the day after memorial day.

I’m not the most experienced video person. Only had this little camera since fall 2009. Canon Power Shot SX 110 IS. For a long time thought it wouldn’t zoom in video mode, didn’t do it when I moved the thingy - or was something being done incorrectly? It zoomed in video that day. But focus goes fuzzy when zoomed in video. I dunno.
Most of the direction book is too information-dense to get absorbed with my health the on-again off-again way it is.
