Unwanted window reflections?

I build my models with a lot of fine detail, and like to get in close with the camera to get that feeling of standing right there in front of a real building. Trouble is, the reflections in the windows give it away. Mostly the camera, and my hand, are reflected.

Shooting from an angle is the most obvious solution, but isn’t always possible. Any other suggestions on how to avoid this?

Be sure the model is more lit (brighter) than you are. Wear dark clothing and if possble to light only the model and not use a flash, you can eliminate some or all of the reflection. dark background behind yourself also helps.

Unless you want to photoshop your pictures, which kind of defeats the purpose of the fine detail, this can be a tricky problem.

I wonder if the anti-reflective coating they put on eye glasses could be procured and used on your windows ? ? ?

How about a polarizing filter on the camera ? A black fabric bag to put your hand and camera in, with holes for your arm and the lens ?

Reflections can also be your friend, so long as they are of another scale item. When they reflect the photographer, or a non scale object, it does present a problem. At work I often photograph new homes for marketing materials. They always want nice shots of the bathrooms with that have wrap-around mirrors, but don’t like seeing me in the mirror :0

I think a polarizing filter would do it.
