Unstoppable

Not sure if anyone else has posted on the film?

I caught it last night late and really enjoyed the film.

There is a good deal of expected harsh language, outside of that it was pretty fun to watch a modern feature film about trains.

I wasn’t aware of the actual incident, but it appears to have been pretty loosely based on fact, and very sensationalized for the film.

I’d give it 3 outta 5 stars

I was going to go see it sometime next week. sounds like it is a good one.

Cris and I saw it, thought it was pretty good. Definitely sensationalized but enjoyable. To me the most annoying part was the typical “corporations/execs are evil scum” angle. Seems Hollywood can’t make a movie these days without portraying “Big Business” as the villain regardless of the facts.

Is Hollywood big business?

No I’m just a little guy with ties to no corporation. I support whomever pays best.

Someone at work just mentioned this movie to me. Ill have to have watch it as long as my A.D.D. does not kick in. LOL

Tried to buy tickets yesterday for matinee today, but sold out. Will try again tonight for tomorrow.

LOL!

They had BIG opening here in the area where it was filmed for some of the local “extras” and it seems I heard thru the grape vine that some folks heckled the film a little …“Hey buddy, your chasing a south bound train on a north bound road…” stuff like that. I geuss it got decent reviews around here? I’ve not gone to see it yet though. I know a guy I work with that does small scale stuff and sells decals. He has done decals for several of the locos and I geuss even painted a few in HO to match the movie locos?

Chas

The event that it is based on took place in Ohio and I recall watching the end of it live on TV. It would need to be sensationalized considerably because the real situation even with all the news hype at the time was pretty much a non event !

Guys, if you just wait it will be on DVD or whatever.

It was pretty good. I’d probably wait for the DVD to see it again, but it was fun. Basically a non-stop chase scene. There are probably hundreds of continuity errors and other inconsistencies in this film as there are in most Hollywood productions. I noticed a few, like the name on a tank car being changed to a fictional company, but the reporting marks remained real. It was interesting how they took real town names from other states (Olean was one) and put then in Pennsylvania. Also the town where the impending doom was located was “Stanton” - not too far off from a real railroad city in PA - Scranton.

Anyone know where the curved trestle bridge approach (Stanton Curve) really is?

I think the curve is in OH, read the above linked Wiki and I think it’s there?

That would be where the real one was, not the more dangerous one they used in the film.

Yeah based on the TV previews looks to be a fastpaced flick. According to a local ad statement " it’s more than a movie, it’s an experience" quote of d.b. of abcnewsradio ! Is it

No Megan Fox or Angelina Jolie ???!

I dooo wait for DVD these days, and usually Tuesday is movie night when a local drugstore has free movie night. Surprisingly the most recent flicks are on the shelf within 3wks of them being sold at the resellers.

Those “big corporate” theatres tend to be too loud, waaay to many commercials, and even with those other “big corporations” paying millions to advertise to the captive paying audience the theatres movie cover charge is still known to spike higher now-a-days, and with intolerance to VOC I view in a fragrant-free enviro’ !

Personally my Tosh’ 27" CRT hooked up to 5.1 in surround, is quite decent !

Any prototype railway advertising pre-show at the theatre ? They likely chose not to do that as the general public will think their trains are always involved in that sort of thing. LOL Never !!!

p.s. granted there are one or two white hat corp. in the world, but “InsideJob” narrated by MattDamon, directed by CharlesFerguson re: “…Hollywood can’t make a movie these days without portraying “Big Business” as the villain regardless of the facts.”

“It was just after dark when the train started down the grade that leads into Stanton, Pennsylvania… carrying 30 loaded cars… of bannanas … yes there were 30 loaded cars… of ba-na-naaas…” (With all due apologies to Harry Chapin.)

Jon,
Seriously? They prtrayed little old Olean NY as being in PA? Well at times it may as well be. LOL! The yards they worked out of belonging to the WNY & PA RR.

My understanding is that most of the local footage shot was on the southern line from Olean to Driftwood on the map. I recently met folks that recieved some money for allowing the crew to use their property to park on and land a helicopter. That location is north of “Clermont Junction” on their map and close to Eldred PA where I lived for a few years. Clermont Junction used to be a bustling helper junction back in the steam days.

Yep, that's what I will do. In the meantime, I'll watch "Runaway Train".

We went and watched it Friday. Thought it a pretty good film.

I only noticed the name Olean on the track map they were using, and yes, it was supposedly in PA. I don’t remember any of the specific track side scenes as being Olean, PA.
