I head one can get a tour of the UP steam shops in Cheyenne, Wyo , if they are there and not doing much. You want to call ahead and set up an appt. 307-778-3339 Nice folk, you get to see the two working steamers in the modern shop they have. Also the restored E-9’s. Outside is some parts cars/locos. In the remains of the old roundhouse they have a 10 wheeler steamer, a northern they part out for 844 and a restored executive car and the big snowblower. You can crawl over them quite a bit, including getting your pix taken in one!
The Union Pacific Heritage Steam Program, the entire crew and the corporate office are to be commended for their dedication to preserving UP’s glorious past. I too highly recommend taking a tour of the Cheyenne operations if someone is in area – it’s time well spent.
Wow, there’s a LOT of room in that cab. I always thought steel cabs had steel interiors, but I saw evidence of wood in an EBT cab as well.
Neat shot.
Hey Jerry - I’m glad you were able to make the tour. I’ve been there twice now and will surely go again. They really do a nice job with the tours. You have plenty of time for pictures, chatting, and questions. Plus, as the pictures indicate, you get to crawl all over everything! Great guys in the steam shop. They really love their jobs!
