Unbelievable price on USA Trains 0-6-0 switcher?

Is this a sign of the economic times? When announced these were suggested around $500 msrp.

Tim.
It does say at US$200 the reserve is not met.

I’ve bought from this seller on ebay in the past more than once. Never had a problem with their merchandise or them. This write up on ebay seems a bit misleading though. They say all the stuff they bought from the dealer is open for bid at low prices (something along those lines) and yet they have a reserve price attached to it and if I’m not wrong they have a “buy it now” price of $289.00. That double wording bothers me yet I’m tempted to check out what all they have on ebay.

Tony,
the ‘Buy it Now’ was $289.00. This is an amazing price from Al.

More than likely the description is just a typical header thats supposed to apply to more than one item , they just ammend it to specific items when needed.

Yep, hard to believe Al bought just one… wonder who the west coast distributor was? Gold Coast Trains?

Greg

Charles Ro $469.00 D&RG just like the one above. This is Al Kramer very respected on E-Bay and in the hobby field. Means you can buy it now for $289, and his reserve is between $200.00 and $280 and knowing Al the magic number is probably between $269 and $279 to meet the reserve and start the bidding wars, and then the buy it now goes away I believe. Gold Coast Station is still alive and kicking as far as I know, have you heard otherwise?

“Buy it now” is, if I read correctly from Jerry’s analysis above, the “buy it now” price of $289 remains until someone offers a lower price as a bid – then the bidding war starts. Once the “war” starts $289 is no longer offered as a price.

Has anyone simply contacted Uncle Al – or his wife – and said ship me one at $289 independent of any bid offers?

Wendell

The ‘Buy it now’ is a valid selling price. Some eBay regulations allow the ‘Buy it Now’ price to remain, even though bids have been placed. With the eBay in my country, once a bid is placed then the ‘Buy it Now’ option disappears. I have purchased numerous items, ‘Buy it Now’ from Al, over many years and find his friendly personality one of his warmly endearing qualities.

There is no doubt that the selling price is genuine and it was not my intention to doubt it’s authenticity. I was simply amazed that a $500 locomotive, released only a few months ago, would be selling for $289.00. If I was into 1/29 scale then I would take a few of them for that price.

Tim.

Perhaps the low price is a sign of the times.
Cash flow is all important with restricted lending by the banks.

We’ll it went for $306.00 + $18.75 shipping as I said once somebody hit the reserved price the buy it now went away, and as you can see it went to the above price and was sold at it. Someone should have grabbed it at $289.00. Evil Bay wins again. Hah LOL The Regal

But who in hell would want a glorified Thomas the tank engine…at that price, in the first place. Never could figure who thought up that loco as a USTrains model.

There was some recent strange behind the scenes stuff at the BTS. Al was there , with stacks of USA inventory at very low prices. No store sign or anything. Word was that dealers such as Gold coast were more than a bit aggravated.
Charles ro JR. was concerned as there were not many USA dealers on the floor and he is a major sponsor of that show and banquet. So the fact that Kramer was there was “interesting”

Whatever was happening there Jonathan, It suited my pocket, I made two USAT purchases from Al, a $30 saving on one item, and a $20 on another. Both with metal wheels. Better still no customs or duty on return to the UK. Rod

The west coast distributor in Al’s ebay advert is Model Power… they are not out of business, just gave up their west coast location in Corona after it burned to the ground. Apparently Al bought the USAT inventory 2 weeks earlier.

MP has an east coast distribution location.

Oh, why would anyone buy this? Because they are part of the “Prestige” series, very well built, with SS tires on the drivers, die cast boiler, metal valve gear, sound system and smoke.

It’s just a dog of a prototype I believe.

Gotta run home, my AML 0-6-0 USRA switcher should be there.

Regards, Greg
