Here’s your chance to own a piece of garden railroading history. The Woodland Railway is “thinning the herd” so to speak, and has two sets of surplus varnish they’d like to send to new homes.
The first set is a string of 4 LGB 3060 coaches. These date from the 1970s when they were the only “American” looking passenger cars in LGB’s catalog. They are in good shape, but collectors should know they are not exactly “stock.” The roofs have been repainted to get rid of that ugly “black edging” common to LGB roofs. They’ve also been customized with yellow dry transfers that say “Woodland Railway” on the letterboard, and each coach is named for a nearby neighborhood to where the Woodland Railway is located. (These can be removed fairly easily, since they’re just rub-down letters.)
The windows had “curtains” molded into the clear plastic. I painted these so they showed up to look more like actual curtains. The cars have lights, and the last car has Tomar marker lamps on the rear. The first and last car of the set have Kadee #1 couplers on the end, while the couplers between the cars are stock LGB hook-and-loop couplers, shortened so the cars couple a bit closer together. I’m asking $275 for the set, and the buyer will be responsible for shipping. I will not break up the set. The next set is a bit newer, but not too much. It’s a set of LGB yellow D&RGW coaches (3 coaches and one combine.) We purchased these in the early/mid 80s when they first came out, for no other reason than that’s what everyone else was doing.
These coaches are also slightly customized, with repainted roofs and vinyl adhesive letterboards that say “Woodland Railway.” This was a 2-layer “sticker,” so you can peel off the “Woodland Railway” and have a plain black letterboard over which you can add your own lettering, or peel off the black vinyl as well to reveal the stock lettering beneath. (You’re on your own for doing that.)
Like the set of green coaches, the first and last cars have Kadee #1 couplers, with shortened LGB hook-and-loops between each car in the set. The cars have lights and come with some figures. (There’s ample room in the baggage compartment of the combine for a battery. Wires between each of the cars carry power. I’m asking $300 for this set, plus shipping, and I’m not going to break this set up, either. (SOLD) Later, K
