I haven’t seen this before — there’s just too much to see everyday.
I read about similar projects bur I certainly didn’t know how KickStarter works i.e. new to me # 1

KickerStarter is kind of a cool way to crowd fund something. If you don’t meet your goal, the money from the ‘gifts’ goes back to the original owner. My BIL was able to fund his first short film via KickStarter, raised around $2600… Not too bad if you ask me. I keep thinking about using a crowd sourcing website to help pay off my student loans, because after all I’m a poor public education teacher! 
Humm… I wonder if we could raise money for our garden railroads… There has to be someone somewhere with ‘extra’ money to burn.
