Large Scale Central

Two foot gauge spring plowing

lets see if I can get the trick done right to show you a video?

I volunteer at the WW&F Railway Museum in Alna Maine. It was one of the first warm days so we spent the morning clearing the line. The little 15 ton Plymouth showed its stuff! the snow is still 12-24" deep and hard packed wet stuff. it was really hard to shovel it away from the switches and crossings. I sank up to my knees several times getting these shots.

my Grass is nearly that tall down here now :frowning:

great video, thanks for sharing

Wouldn’t have been any problem for Moose, but he probably wanted to stay in bed with a warm cup of cocoa rather than freeze his tootsies. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

You guessed it Todd! He had me load up the wood stove before I left…then I frooze my tootsies. Nothing is colder than boots in wet snow!

Wow Eric

Great video…I kept trying to clean my glasses watching that! Almost like being there!

Thanks for posting this for us!

Sean

Thanks for posting . . . . fun . . . but makes me glad i’m in sunny California . . . .

Very COOL video Eric, Thanks(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Good Vid… Hard work that switch cleaning with 2’ of snow/ice, But a kick in the ass to go for the ride and plow. Over all, I’ll bet you do it again next time.

What a work out for that little diesel!! Has the heavy wet snow ever caused it to derail? Particularly when it rams those snow banks at speed.

Doc Tom

No derailments this time…but it floated over the rail a bit on one crossing, riding the ice in the flangeway…I got off before that run!!!

You sure can feel it when it hits the snow piles…gotta hang on tight!

Great video Eric, thanks for sharing.

Cool! I can’t get over how tiny that loco is!

Wow, talk about picking on the little guy. He sure earned his diesel fuel that day. I could see it ride up and over some ice in the first grade crossing! Definitely looks like a fun way to spend a morning. Glad the white stuff is all but a memory here now! Thanks for posting!

That was fun. Thanks for posting!
