Large Scale Central

Two days at Jasper, Alberta

The morning routine: amble over to Tim Horton’s, next wander down to the station to see what’s up. But on Feb 20th the trains wouldn’t roll until noon. The S&C man told me while he was testing the crossing gates. Interesting part in that equipment cabin, no solid state! All good old reliable relays circuitry. His words: That stuff works at almost any temperature. I guess if it is well maintained.

BTW those guys doing the roofing on the station building hit a warm spell. It was only minus 5º C, the week before it was -20º C. Yep, I was kidding them that they had the coolest jobs in town.

Then the trains started rolling …

Other than trains, I also caught a fair portion of the Olympics.

Part Two

Presently almost out of space on Vimeo so here goes with YT.

Enjoyed watching both parts HJ. It is nice to see trains moving slowly - just like mine on my little RR. lol

I was pleased to see the deer got out of the way of the train but I guess the ‘lill fella’ (or gal) is used to it.

The grain must be quite a bonus when the place is covered in snow.

HJ;

Great vids !

Got to chk my vids for IC1009 unit ! there is a IC unit that passes thru PlaP on a regular basis but off-hand think it is a lower number …

Were those steel plates in those special short bulkheads or lgb (3-4’) rail !

It was darn cold, unnaturally longlasting my past visit to central Canada (PlaP) during the holiday season, so did not make it out often with the cameras. Just a couple short visits trackside …

Thank you Gentlemen!

Part 3 is another long manifest, I didn’t count but those coal hoppers at the tail end must be almost enough for a unit train. Empties rolling East. And I would be interested how many thousands of board feet are on the center beam cars

Next vid will be a bit different.

I did not count the hoppers either HJ, I just watched them roll by. Incidentally Pt.3 played nicely on Opera.

In part one there is a car many of us model, but is seldom seen roaming the rails - a flat load of wheel sets! Nice work HJ.

Another one from Feb 20th This one is different; CN had a bit of a power problem, three of thw motors on one of the units died … slam 25% less power on a full load train going West.

Since the service guys couldn’t fix it they …

After more than an hour of shuffling engines it got even better …

That’s the kind of stuff that really makes railfanning worthwhile.

The next day more Eastbounds

with more wood and more wood. Some of the packaging takes a bit of a beating.

"…is seldom seen roaming the rails - a flat load of wheel sets! "

When back home and railfanning see at least one load either CN or cp .

Actually this past holiday visit there was a flat trailer load single layer approx. 10 (axles) 2 diff. sizes on the main drag (TCH 1A) curdside to what used to be my alma mater elementary school

Semi ‘tractor’ was missing for a couple days, then the load dissappeared… obviously had a problem with ‘power’.

Tried for a still shot but the sun was shining right at me so it was hopeless.

thanks again for the vids HJ !!

The guys at VIMEO picked the right shot for the title. How about that, eh!
