So I asked about “Facebook”. What about “Twidder”? I get the idea it is a personal webiste with a limit of 40 characters or something like that, that controls how much you can post. What is an opinion on it? I hear radio personalities talking about posting on it, but I haven’t cared enough to look.
ONce again…I suppose if you have a desk job in front of a computer it may be beneficial but if you work in the field with no internet why would one come home in the evening and do such when they can go to LCS…or the other train sites out there. I know there are many here that do other train sites. I personally do one as I cannot stay on top of it all.
Once again just my opinion.
Dave,
Right now, I’m trying to learn, but I’ve got to agree.

Ric,
I let my wife learn for about a year now and so far I’m not impressed. However if she enjoys it then so be it but I don’t see how you get anything out of it other than chatter. I thought that was what the media was for?
Ric there’s MySpace also but again like Twitter and Facebook I agree with Dave R in that they are more public email with a lot of personal info open to the WWW. Do you reveal your personal info here, or keep it semi private?
“Do you reveal your personal info here, or keep it semi private?”
I have probably said more on this site than I should. But that is before that type of conversation was ferbotten. ;-0 Talking about trains is enough knowledge and I do learn a lot here.
Yes, I luv to tweed on twidder!

I’m all a twidder!!! Hah Lol Regal
I think it’s time for Fr. Fred to chime in. Twitter was created for his beloved Twits Twits tweet about what they are doing at the moment. Kind of like Bart on chat “Heading to the ash pit” and then a report about how good it was - TMI
Much of this twit-ering and tweeting revolves around texting and cell phones. The younger generation must know what all of their acquaintances are doing at all times.

Communication overload.
Ralph
What’s going to happen to the young 'uns when they grow up and face the real world? Are we going to have nothing but a bunch of electronic automatons walking around with their noses stuck in an i-pod or texting non stop?
They surely will not know how to carry on a face-to-face conversation.
I’ve seen these twits texting each other across the room, for heavens sake.
They are losing all of their person to person, one-on-one, etc experiences for later life.
My space, twitter, all that stuff enables these kids to enter their “alter-egos”, make up some identity and hide behind their phones and computers.
I have never, nor will I use any of those types of communications.
LSC is my space, twitter and face book.
Just my .02
John you have just about hit the nail on the head. My wife works in public education and they are very worried about loss of communication skills. Studies say that 93% of communication is non-verbal, meaning body language, facial expression and gestures. School kids today are starting to show a loss of these skills and have a very hard time reading non-verbal communication in others.
I am not, however, nay-saying the internet and what it has done to improve communication. We just need to be careful of how much we rely on technology to communicate. The example of texting across the room is a perfect example. We took a group of Matt’s friends on our boat a year ago for the 4th of July fireworks. The whole group spent the entire fireworks show looking at cell phone screens, texting friends who were not in the group, and in some cases each other.
Twits, did I hear “Twits”…?
Somehow I have been connected to some :Facebook thingy"…or something or other. People are sending things out that ask me to be their “Friends”…some are friends of people I know, but I haven’t a clue who they are, and will never meet them.
The whole thing is intimadating, because some people I consider already as friends, are sending these things to me…we already know that we have a friendship; I don’t need some web site to tell eachother the fact.
I don’t see how to disconnect from the thing…I don’t want my true friends to think I don’t care, but…It’s a total waste of my time and bandwidth…
I don’t know about you, but I can’t say much in 160 characters!
I got a twitter account and haven’t looked at it in several months.
Twitter to me is just the same as AOLs instant messaging, but mobile. I wont twitter, why? its mostly just inane chatter from people who can’t shut up about the stupid mundane things they do everyday that now seam somehow relevant now that they can tell someone they are doing it. I think alot of younger people just need to learn its OK to shut up for petes sake

Ric at first there was drawing on the cave wall.
then the written word and the printing press.
News papers T.V. then cable.
Now its the internet text messages and twitter.
Things change. all twitter and facebook are is a new why to say hi and whats on your mind.
as you found out. I would rather call its easier to me then even this site.
side not. this is the only train forum I belong to because its the best and its free.
Thanks Bob
See my answer in the Facebook thread…
Jon.
