Tweetsie RR Video

My friend Bill Blomgren from the Friends of the East Broad Top has been posting some of his Hi-Def work on Vimeo. I just ran across this video of the Tweetsie Railfan Weekend filmed on 9/8.

HD Video on Vimeo is just awesome if you have the bandwidth and hardware for it. Most DSL / Cable modems and a 2 year old computer will stream the Hi_Def viedo.

Check out Bill’s EBT videos too.

Tell your friend Bill thank you. The videos are cool.

Looks just like a Bachmann! Hope it runs better.

Just wonderful!
I love the EBT whistle so much, I use the Px P5 EBT in my Forney.
Thanks for the link.

Beautiful video work , but what kind of person places music over the sounds of a working steam locomotive ?
It could have been a winner , but isn’t .

I thought that too at first, but I think he did a pretty good job of blending the two. Remember that Tweetsie is an amusement park and there is lots of background noise that you might find objectionable in a train video. The music effectively masks this ambient noise.

Also, Bill is trying to figure out what makes a video popular on Vimeo so he can get his EBT vids listed on the HD channel. His experiments have shown that train videos with music are much more popular to the general public than those with just train sounds.

FWIW - The music Bill uses is legally distributable. It is original works and/or public domain works performed by a friend of his. Bill is working on several commercial products to benefit the FEBT and as such, any music used needs to be legal. I kind of like the stuff on the Tweetsie video.

Yes his work is top notch , and sad to say music or talking is often overlaid the sounds of a working steam loco , sad to say .
I have raised this point with the video makers of many RR videos , and expressed my dislike for all the yak yak yak voice overs of train sounds .
Sad to say but , many mainstream people who purchase train videos / DVDs , do not know a 2-8-0 from a GP 7 , so they need to be told what it is and etc …
I hope the quality of Bills work is appreciated and does well .

Perhaps he can do a hard core video of just the loco sounds for us ?

I agree Dennis. A trend I've seen in some of the newer videos on DVD is the ability to turn off the narration and music tracks individually. I picked up a Pentrex video of Cass Scenic this summer and was happily surprised to see this feature. The first time through I listened to the narration to learn some things about the original operations. Later I watched again with only the train sounds and it was great.

If Bill ever releases any of these on DVD it might be possible to have the tracks selectable. For now, these vimeo videos are not commercial products, just having some fun and experimenting. The “commercial” product he’s currently working on is a documentary on the EBT. I believe he has a commitment from PBS to pick it up for air use.

You can see some of the pieces in his short EBT videos on vimeo.

I just love what he’s getting out of his Sony HD camera. If I ever win the lottery

There’s your “Annie” locomotive!

Beautiful.
