Does anyone else think we need a tutorial on how to do proper quotes and general formatting?
Just wondering.

No . I think that it would be an insult . Half the fun of this site is the characters . Filling out proformae would be a disaster . Let people speak naturally , we do not look down on those who do not conform , so why change ?

Next thing, Herr Hans will be asking for our papers.

Nah, it really is OK by me when people want to look “not so computer savvy” and mess up all kinds of easy to learn things. It’s just the way it seems to work, isn’t it?

That statement seems to be at odds with the original post. But, that’s our HJ.
I am always amazed at the way some people express themselves on the web. But, I get the message even though the person wasn’t there the day the teacher explained things.

Nothing at odds, because I really think that some people would benefit from learning some “of the basic stuff”. that’s why I asked:
Does anyone else think we need a tutorial on how to do proper quotes and general formatting?
But it is possible that I have been wrong again. (darn!) Thank you for your interest.
Hans, most of us figure it out after buggering it up once or twice. I don’t need no education.

Yeah, yeah David, I know. It really isn’t rocket science, all living proof to the contrary.
On our train trip someone asked me which group of people I found the most difficult to teach/instruct. So I told him and he almost killed himself laughing.
Hans, I kept telling the boneheads at my last job that “Its copier repair. Its not brain science nor rocket surgery.”
And Hans, the ones I find the most difficult to instruct are the ones who already know the subject.

And they didn’t get, right?
Yep, give me a “blank slate” who listens and absorbs, it will be easy. Unless it’s a dim bulb who needs lots of “polishing”.
Yup, its difficult to get someone to unlearn something. I am going through that with my dog. He needs to unlearn a few things if he is going to keep his happy home.
And no, they didn’t get it. They kept making it more difficult then it needed to be. Same thing where I work now. Some people are just wired that way I guess. I like simple, I relate to it better.

Take it easy on the dog, eh!
Yeah, it’s either that or they just can’t carry over the commonly used functions in a text editor to the next text editor.
As you told them:

Priceless.
Hans the not being able to carry over knowledge thing blows my mind. I have worked with many techs who approach each model copier as a whole new animal. Me, I transpose what I know from previous models to the model I am looking at. One model of Toshiba had Ricoh feed heads in it. The rollers were identical and interchangeable between that Toshiba and the Ricoh, but the tech I was working with, acted like he had no idea how the feed head worked. He was experienced on the Ricoh, so it should have been familiar ground for him.
And I am going to be nice to my boy (the dog). He just has to learn that barking non stop at 7am is not acceptable behavior.

Yes and yes.
Barking? You don’t have bears and deer in your neighbourhood, do you?
I’m partial to Huskies, they are usually very quiet unless there is a bear around. “Raven”, a female black Seppala husky is a bit different, deer as well as bears are a good reason to bark, as is strange people out the back or at the neighbours’.
Almost perfect.
Deer yes, we gottem. We also have opossum, squirrels, chipmunks, ground hogs, unkept cats and someone once told me we have racoons, although I haven’t seen any.
But bears, no the black bear didn’t come into our neighborhood, he passed by a few miles to the north.

I think it is certainly needed. Several other tutorials, such as posting pictures and embedding videos should also be composed and pinned so everyone would be able to easily find and refer to them as needed.
OK I shall give that a try, both the “Editor” and the “Picture manipulation and posting”.
Perhaps if I ask “Bob, your Site Host and Benevolent Dictator” nicely, it will be a sticky with a straight link. I’ll do it as a screen shot movie in 720p, to take it easy on some of the hardware.
There already is a sticky on Picture Posting here: http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/20241/picture-posting-help-for-rick-ma
Feel free to enhance / correct it if you like.
